The work focuses on the Spiš area and explains the cultural development of the region in the context of the German colonization of Eastern Europe. The process of colonizing Slovakia began in the 12th century. Settlers from Germany brought more sophisticated legal system to the country and created towns according to the German model. In the Middle Ages, three territories were formed in the territory of today's Slovakia, where the Germans made up the majority of the population.
