Na vzniku Pravčické brány se podílelo tektonické porušení pískovcového skalního masivu a vznik exfoliačních puklin, dnešní morfologii dotvářejí skalní římsy podmíněné slepencovými polohami. Z geologického hlediska jsou skalní brány přechodným jevem. The origin of the Pravčická brána Arch was controlled by tectonic deformation of the sandstone rock massif and the formation of exfoliation scales. The present morphology is contributed by rock ledges at levels of conglomerate beds. From geological viewpoint, arches are temporary phenomena.
