Bazilika sv. Vavřince leží na rozhraní knížecí a královské akropole a východního předhradí. Byla dlouhodobě zkoumána již od roku 1884, kdy zde. byly nalezeny raněstředověké dlaždice v barokní rezidenci čp. 14, která je součástí baziliky. Později v roce 1903 zde archeologický výzkum B. Matějky objevil základy baziliky s vloženou příčnou lodí. Stavba byla datována do 11. a 12. století. Po výzkumu byla zasypána. Bazilika byla znovu odkryta při archeologickém výzkumu K. Gutha v letech 1924-1926. Tehdy nad ní byla umístěna betonová deska a zůstala již odhalena do dnešní doby. Nový výzkum, třetí v pořadí, byl proveden v letech 1968-1970, kdy byla ověřena stratigrafická poloha dlaždic. Upřesněno datování do konce 11. století, do doby, kdy byl Vyšehrad sídlem prvého českého krále Vratislava II. (1061-1092). Tehdy byla také objevena předrománská otonská sakrální stavba, která byla pod základy baziliky. The Basilica St. Lawrence lies on the border oj the princely and royal acropolis and the east front section of the castle. Its long-term research started in 1884 when early-medieval tiles were discovered in the baroque residence no. 14 which makes up a part of the basilica. In 1903 archaeologists led by B. Matějka disclosed foundations of a basilica with an inserted transept. The building was dated to the 11 th-12th centuries and after the end of the excavations the site was filled up. The basilica was excavated again in 1924-1926 during archaeological research of K. Guth. A concrete slab was then placed over it and the site has remained open ever since. The third phase of the research was camed out in 1968-1970 when stratigraphic positioning oJthe tiles was determined. The dating was specified to the late 11th century, to the period when Vyšehrad was the seat of the first Czech king Vratislav II (1061-1092).
