Region střední Evropy může být chápán jako přirozený geografický region. Jeho význam z hlediska geopolitiky však zdaleka není tak přirozený a jednoduše definovatelný. Role i význam tohoto regionu se měnily vlivem důležitých mezinárodních událostí v podstatě už od počátku vzniku mezinárodních vztahů. V určitém období mohl hrát tento region významnou roli při utváření mezinárodních vztahů. Byla však také období, kdy geopolitický pojem "střední Evropa" prakticky neexistoval, nebo byl alespoň vliv této oblasti v podstatě nulový. S proměnou základních pilířů mezinárodních vztahů jako i samotného mezinárodního systému z vestfálského na post-vestfálský se tak dá předpokládat změna také v celkové roli a vlivu regionu střední Evropy v celoevropském kontextu. Tato práce se pokusí analyzovat rozdíl v postavení regionu střední Evropy z hlediska jeho role a vlivu na okolní evropské státy ve vestfálském a post-vestfálském systému. The region of the Central Europe can be seen as a natural geographic region. Its importance, however, is not so natural and simply definable in terms of geopolitics. The part and the importance of this region have changed due to the important international events since the beginning of the international relations. For some time, the region had a strong influence on other European countries, as well as was playing a prominent part in formation of the international relations. However, there were also periods when the geopolitical concept of "Central Europe" practically didn't exist, or at least the influence of this area was almost null. Therefore, with the transformation of the basic pillars of international relations as well as international system itself from the Westphalian system to the post-Westphalian system it can be expected also a change in the overall role and influence of the Central Europe in the European context. This paper attempts to analyse the difference in the position of the Central European region in terms of its role and influence on the surrounding European states in the Westphalian and post-Westphalian system.
