Vilová čtvrť Čechovy sady vznikla na začátku 20. století jako rezidenční oblast místní společenské elity, jejímiž stavebníky vil byli např. umělci, učitelé, podnikatelé či architekti. Za "První republiky" se z tohoto místa stala reprezentativní a klidová zóna s příjemným parkem, jen na dohled od městského centra. Ovšem zlomové dějinné události, jimiž byly druhá světová válka a následně především nástup komunistické moci v únoru 1948, změnily celkové politické, ideologické, sociální a kulturní klima doby. To se podepsalo na osudech konkrétních lidí a také, jak se autor v práci snaží vykreslit, i na osudu samotného místa. Na příkladu vil v Čechových sadech předkládaná práce analyzuje proměnu v pojetí bydlení, architektury a životního stylu. Po první polovině 20. století, která přála individuálnímu a honosnému vilovému bydlení hluboko zakořeněnému v evropské kultuře, byl záhy, v rámci "společenské odvety", v Čechách nastolen kolektivistický a socialistický koncept bydlení, architektury a celé kultury obecně. Vila, jako symbol "kapitalistické" éry, zde neměla místo a byla odsouzena ke strádání stejně jako lidé, kteří ji vlastnili, bydleli v ní a obecně její ideu "představovali". V případě Čechových sadů to vedlo až do záhuby, protože většina zdejších vil byla na konci sedmdesátých let zbourána a... The Kolin's villas quarter "Čechovy sady" was founded at the beginning of the twentieth century as a residential area of local social elite. The builduings owners were for example artists, teachers, entrepreuners or architects and builders. During the "First republic" it became place of representative and resting belt of greenery of near surroundings, just in sight of the city center. However, the turning points of history - the second world war and mainly the communist coup in February 1948 - totally changed political, social, economical, ideological and cultural course of events. These historical moments left its marks on the people of Čechovy sady, and also on the fate of the whole "place". Present bachelor thesis analyses by way of the example of villas quarter Čechovy sady the transformation of the conceptions of housing, way of life and architecture. It attempts to explain that the villas architecture in the Czechoslovakia of the second half of the twentieth century was the unsuitable type of building, therefore there was established the collectivist and mass concept of society, policy, and also housing and architecture.
