Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá rozšiřováním NATO v letech 1999 a 2004, konkrétně z pohledu připravenosti České republiky, Maďarska, Slovenska a Estonska na vstup do NATO. Práce obnáší čtyři kapitoly, v nichž analyzuje téma rozšiřování Aliance. Užívá k tomu šíře zvolený postup. Z tohoto důvodu se proto nejprve zabývá rozšířením NATO během studené války. Přesto hlavním cílem stále zůstávají dvě vlny rozšíření Aliance, a to z let 1999 a 2004, které zahrnovaly také čtyři výše uvedené státy. Žádný z nich by ovšem nemohl být přijat, pokud by s tímto krokem nesouhlasily rovněž Spojené státy a zejména v případě Estonska také nebylo dbáno na názor Ruska. Práce se následně již zabývá pouze Českou republikou, Maďarskem, Slovenskem a Estonskem, jejichž připravenost na vstup do NATO hodnotí na základě podrobné analýzy. Tato analýza vychází ze Studie o rozšíření NATO, jako základního dokumentu Aliance v oblasti vlastního rozšíření. The thesis deals with NATO enlargements in 1999 and 2004 - on the examples of eligibility of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Estonia for NATO accession. The thesis is divided into the four parts, which are analysing the issue of enlargement. This issue is viewed from a broad perspective. That's why the thesis includes the NATO enlargements during the Cold Ward. Nevertheless, the main focus is on the two enlargements waves, such as 1999 and 2004, which comprise the accession of these four mentioned states. Simultaneously, none of these would be accepted without the US approval and especially in case of Estonia also without Russian opinion. Then it could follow the in-depth analysis of eligibility of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Estonia for NATO accession, which is based on Study on NATO Enlargement. The Study can be legitimately regarded as NATO's basic document for enlargement.
