For the work freely available data from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter's Laser Altimeter was used. First two parts focuse on permanently illuminated areas, brief history of Moon mapping and acquisition and characteristics of used data. In the third part the theoretic procedure is characterized mainly the creation of figures essential for calculating the necessary parameters. In the fourth part of the work the use of figures in the selected GIS program and the whole procedure is described. The result was presented as a map of illuminated areas of South Pole of the Moon in one position of Sun. Key words: Moon, illumination, digital terrain model, GIS
