Práce se zabývá otázkou socio-ekonomické situace katolické komunity v Severním Irsku. Zkoumá hospodářskou, vzdělávací a bytovou politiku uplatňovanou v Severním Irsku vládou Margaret Thatcherové a snaží se zjistit, zda během jejího vládnutí došlo ke zlepšení v socio- ekonomické situaci katolického obyvatelstva. Pro analýzu jsou brány v potaz oblasti školství, zaměstnanosti a bydlení. Razantnější změny v oblasti školství realizovala Margaret Thatcherová až ve svém třetím volebním období. Během jejího působení na pozici premiérky nedošlo ke krácení rozpočtu v této oblasti, od druhé poloviny osmdesátých let mírně rostl. V osmdesátých letech pokračoval trend z minulého desetiletí, kdy výrazně rostl počet studentů katolíků, kteří nastoupili ke studiu na vysokou školu. Vzrostl také podíl studentů pocházejících z dělnického prostředí. Vláda Margaret Thatcherové považovala politiku bydlení v letech 1981 až 1987 za svou prioritu. Podporovala soukromé vlastnictví nemovitostí, výstavbu v privátním sektoru a rekonstrukci bytového fondu. Během tohoto období se téměř všechny zkoumané aspekty bydlení zlepšily. Studována byla nejen průměrná úroveň v rámci katolické komunity, ale také deset distriktů s největším podílem katolického obyvatelstva. Nejhůře ze zkoumaných oblastí dopadla oblast zaměstnanosti. Během zkoumaného... The thesis deals with the issue of the socioeconomic situation of the Catholic community in Northern Ireland. It examines the economic, educational and housing policies that were put into effect in Northern Ireland by Margaret Thatcher's government and endeavours to determine whether an improvement occurred in the socioeconomic situation of the Catholic population during her rule. Education, employment and housing were examined for the analysis. Margaret Thatcher only implemented greater changes in education during her third term in office. When she was prime minister there were no budget cuts in this area, and the budget grew slightly in the second half of the eighties. In the eighties, the trend from the previous decade continued, in which the number of Catholic students entering university grew significantly. The proportion of students from the working-class also increased. Margaret Thatcher's government considered housing policy its priority in the years 1981 to 1987. It supported the private ownership of real property, construction in the private sector and reconstruction of the housing stock. During this period, almost all examined aspects of housing improved.
