Abstract: Lubrication of the human ankle joint in walking is analysed.For the normal joint, within each step, the synovial fluid filmshortly turns into a thin protecting gel layer. With thearthritic joint, this protecting gel film is depleted afterseveral steps and the surfaces get into the contact.
