Cílem dizertační práce je podrobná analýza politické publicistiky Karla Horkého (1879-1965), jednoho z významných, ale opomíjených českých novinářů první poloviny 20. století. Zároveň usiluje o její konfrontaci s jeho životem a společenským rámcem, snaží se popsat, jak jsou mediální výstupy ovlivněny dobovými politickými, sociálními či kulturními podmínkami. Pro zkoumání daného tématu byla zvolena historická biografická metoda, výklad je členěn chronologicky do ucelených období Horkého života a jeho tvorby. Na působení konkrétního publicisty dizertační práce ukazuje, že česká žurnalistika byla hlavně v první republice ničivě ovlivňována politickými organizacemi a jejich lídry a nestrannost byla v podstatě vyloučena. Rovněž ukazuje, jaké prostředky volily různé politické režimy ke kontrole, omezování i využití činnosti novinářů. This dissertation offers a detailed analysis of the political publishing of Karel Horký (1879- 1965), one of the important but neglected Czech journalists in the first half of the twentieth century. It also seeks to contrast his life with the contemporary political system, and describes how media texts are influenced by political, social or cultural milieu. A historical biographical method was used to explore the topic, and interpretation is divided chronologically into the compact periods of Horký's life and work. The dissertation shows that Czech journalism was devastatingly affected by political organizations and their leaders in the Czechoslovakia. The impartiality of journalists was essentially impossible. It also shows how different political regimes control, degrade, and exploit them.
