Abstract: The microstructure of high chromium martensitic steel TAF 650 was quantified by transmission electron microscopy and image analysis in virgin condition and after creep at 650řC for 4379 and 5888 h where marked decrease in time to fracture occurred. It is concluded that preferential recovery of regions without subgrains in virgin conditions and pronounced coarsening of Laves phase Fe2W, are responsible for an observed decrease in creep life.
