Water reservoirs Modlany and Kateřina are mine subsidences, which arose at the end of the 70s created by flooding areas disused mine shafts. Originally in this area were several historic fishponds. Currently both reservoirs are used for sport fishing and in case of a reservoir Kateřina even for recreational swimming. Since 2013 is there conducted regular monitoring of water quality. Assess the physico-chemical parameters and special consideration is given to measure the content of nutrients (nitrogen and photophorus) in water. Attention was paid to the composition of phytoplankton and zooplankton. The analysis phytoplankton shows that in the reservoirs there are many species of cyanobacteria. Zooplankton is very limited planktivorous fish species. The parameter values detected by regular withdrawals correspond eutrophic waters. The results allow to assess the status of water quality and help to suggest measures to improve the quality of water in both tanks.
