Pro většinu z nás je válečné prostředí věcí, se kterou se nemůžeme ztotožnit a tudíž záznamy z terénu jsou našimi jedinými okénky do dění válečných konfliktů. Díky tomu žánr válečné fotografie nabírá skutečnou moc, kterou působí na masy. Cílem této práce je ukázat, jakým způsobem můžou tyto fotografie ovlivnit vnímání společnosti. Práce nabízí teoretický základ k porozumění vlivům, které formují finální dojem diváka ze snímku. Druhá část navazuje na teoretické poznatky a blíže specifikuje způsob, jakým byly snímky použity pomocí příkladů ze dvou válečných konfliktů, Španělské občanské války a války ve Vietnamu. Své závěry podložím vlastními zkušenostmi z dokumentování uprchlické krize na Balkáně. Because the reality of war is so far from our own, images captured from the field become the only visuals shaping our understanding of the course of events. This gives war photography a unique power that can be used to influence masses. The aim of this thesis is to illustrate the ways in which such photographs can be used to shape public opinion. It offers a theoretical understanding of the influences that are involved in forming the final effect a photograph has on its viewer. Then it specifies how these influences have been used by examining the visual representation of two wars: the War in Vietnam and the Spanish Civil War. My findings will be supported by my own experience of documenting the refugee crisis in the Balkans.
