This thesis focuses on the current situation of the conflict in Sri Lanka after the civil war. Its aim is to map the conflict from the point of view of its causes, course and in particular the development after the official ending of the conflict in 2009. The work raises a question why the conflict has not been resolved even after the end of war and eventually attempts to determine possibilities for further development in the future. The first part deals with the key terms such as nation, nationalism, ethnicity, ethnic conflict and theory of ethnic conflict. The second chapter maps the entire conflict with emphasis on the period of civil war. The third part of work analyses the entire Srilankan conflict and its current development from the theoretical point of view. Simultaneously it deals with the attitude of the international community to this conflict. The final part also concentrates on a possible future development and its potential solutions.
