Příspěvek sumarizuje vztah profesionální a amatérské archeologie od konce 19. století a věnuje se také problematice využívání a zneužívání detektorů kovů v archeologickém výzkumu. The paper summarizes relationship between amateur and professional archaeologists since the end of the 19th century. It is focused also on issue of use and misuse of metal detectors in archaeological research.
