Rok 2013 byl již osmým v pořadí, kdy byly na jaře z Boleveckého rybníka (Plzeň- Bolevec) odlovovány tzv. „plevelné druhy“ ryb (zejména cejn velký, Abramis brama a plotice obecná, Rutilus rutilus). Tyto odlovy jsou jedním z prostředků tzv. biomanipulace a cílem projektu by mělo být zlepšení kvality vody, která je v tomto největším a rekreačně hojně využívaném rybníce v Plzni zcela zásadní. Plevelné druhy ryb se v rybníce podílejí nejen na vyžírání zooplanktonu (planktonní filtrátor řas a sinic), ale také na koloběhu živin (především fosforu), který přerýváním sedimentu uvolňují do vodního sloupce a činí ho tak dostupným nežádoucím řasám a sinicím. Unwanted fish species (particularly bream, Abramis brama and roach, Rutilus rutilus) were removed using electrofishing from Bolevecký pond (Plzeň-Bolevec) during spawning period of 2013. This removal is one of the biomanipulation measures applied at the Bolevecký pond with the goal of water quality improvement. Planktivorous fish species have a negative effect on zooplankton (filtrator of algae and blue green algae), but also on nutrient recycling (particularly phosphorus), that they make available for phytoplankton due to digging in the sediment.
