This thesis deals with the cities friendly to people and aims to explain the concept of sustainable urban development. In the practical part two representative cities of that concept are presented - the French city of Lyon and the capital of Denmark - Copenhagen. In the following chapters of the practical part town I analyze the town of Jindřichův Hradec and the conclusion suggests changes in the "Náměstí míru" square so that the town of Jindřichův Hradec was friendly to people.
