Indicators of LSD: Proposal for a Model and Set of Literacy Indicators for Adult Public Sustainable Development in the Czech Republic
Končinská, Alice ; Třebický, Viktor (advisor) ; Janoušková, Svatava (referee)
At present, a trend is emerging that shows the increasing application of Education for Sustainable Development in the Czech Republic. This type of education is arriving in various strategic documents and is featuring in pedagogic and andragogical practices. There is a range of indicators, mainly originating from abroad, for the assessment of this type of education and the task ahead for the Czech Republic is to adjust these indicators for the Czech environment, or create its own ones. This thesis deals with result indicators, that is to say indicators of the impact of Education for Sustainable Development on the literacy of the adult public on the local, microregional and regional levels. The thesis analyses selected national and international strategic documents as well as Czech and foreign specialised literature from the perspective of environmental education, bringing-up and further education concepts and Education for Sustainable Development. It then analyses these concepts from the perspective of educational qualities that Literacy for Sustainable Development consists of. Subsequently, it evaluates the identified qualities in an expert way in accordance with the definition of Literacy for Sustainable Development and it sets a coherent Adult Public Literacy Model for Sustainable Development....
Water footprint of the cow milk for two types of production systems in the Liberec Region
Hojcsková, Daniela ; Hák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Třebický, Viktor (referee)
The water footprint is a multidimensional indicator which was created to quantify the total volume of freshwater used for various purposes. With the water footprint it is possible to determine the volume and type of water used directly and indirectly during the production in a given place and time. The data related to the water footprints of products are utilized in the evaluation of the international trade with goods, too (a concept of virtual water used for the analysis of water stress export out of the country which imports water-intensive products). The greatest amount of water is used globally in the agriculture, so the agricultural products are the ones with the highest water footprints. The focus of concern is the water footprint of an agriculture production and the aim of this work is to bring the first results regarding the water footprint of the cow milk in the Czech Republic and also to evaluate a methodology of its calculation. Two dairy farms dealing with a market production of milk from the Liberec region were chosen for the research. The farm Rváčov is oriented to an intensive milk production and on the other hand the farm Bzí is a system with mixed elements of extensive and intensive characters of the dairy production. For the comparison of the milk production effectiveness we have...
Visitors Monitoring Importance for Protected Areas on the NPR Vůznice Case Study
Skalková, Petra ; Patzelt, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Třebický, Viktor (referee)
Protected areas, which now cover 11 % of the earth's surface (Rodrigues et al., 2004), play a vital role in tourism and they are being visited by more and more people (Buckley, 2003). These areas have been declared to protect species and habitats from being disturbed by visitors and from habit degradation (Kelly et al., 2002; Boo, 1990). This thesis deals with the monitoring and evaluation of tourism impact of illegal traffic to the National Nature Reserve Vůznice. In this study I have focused on three main units: firstly the vegetation - we mapped the specially protected plant species and habitats assessed valuables in ArcGIS, secondly the evaluation of the impact on bird and finally the monitoring of tourism. Valuable habitat is mixed and very valuable habitats are mainly located in the valley of NPR Vůznice, including roadsides. In contrast, less valuable habitats are spread irregularly. I found 11 kinds of plants protected by law while monitoring endangered plants in the area. Among specially protected species in the area surrounding roads are spring snowflake Leucojum vernum (Spring Snowflake), Lunaria Rediviva (Perennial Honesty), Lilium martagon (Martagon Lily) and a greater proportion of important species is located off roads on slopes, e.g. Aurinia saxatilis (Basket of Gold), Dictamnus...

Sustainability of kiteboarding: Generating a set of indicators for valuating of environmental impacts of kiteboarding factories
Heuer, Dan ; Janoušková, Svatava (advisor) ; Třebický, Viktor (referee)
10 Abstract This study deals with sustainability of kiteboarding with focus on manufacturing of equipment for this water sport. The goal of this research was to develop set of specialized indicators for kiteboarding companies in order to monitor their externalities on the environment. Firstly, the author collected the recent scientific knowledge about this young sport. Subsequently, sustainability of related sports as surfing, windsurfing and wakeboarding were questioned. It is possible to say that the materials used for manufacturing of the equipment mean great environmental problem. Another negative impacts are caused by large-scale events and tourism. By a comparison mezhod the GRI initiative was chosen as basic set of indicators. These indicators were then modified to meet the needs of kiteboarding industry as much as possible. However, some new indicators were invented and unnecessary indicators were rejected. These changes were based on analysis of CSR reports of big sport goods companies; analysis of negative externalities of kiteboarding; and interviews with manufacturers of kiteboarding equipment. The final version, called Kiteboarding Indicators for Threats to Environment, was tested by one of the manufacturer. The results of the study show that kiteboarding have some negative impacts on...
The Application of the National Footprint Accounts for agricultural production based on national data
Corlannová, Lenka ; Vačkářová, Davina Elena (advisor) ; Třebický, Viktor (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to compare the National Footprint Accounts of the Czech Republic in the section of cropland and grazing land for the year 2007 based on globally available data and data available in the Czech Republic, and also to compare these National Footprint Accounts of the Czech Republic based on nationally available data from the years 2007 and 2013. This thesis used the method of calculation of the National Footprint Accounts developed by Global Footprint Network. The ecological footprint of cropland of the Czech Republic is lower according to national data compared to global data while the ecological footprint of grazing land is higher. According to national data, the ecological footprint of both cropland and grazing land of the Czech Republic was lower in 2013 compared to 2007. This work gives an opportunity to compare the calculation of the ecological footprint and biocapacity of cropland and grazing land based on different data sources and to compare the results based on data from 2007 and 2013. Assessment of shifts of environmental pressure among countires and regions by means of material flow indicators
Maric, Andrija ; Kovanda, Jan (advisor) ; Třebický, Viktor (referee)
World regions are becoming more connected by every day and as a consequence of that dependence rises among states. The states become specialised in production of certain type of the product, services etc. Subsequently they turn to be even more dependent. One does not need to go further back then real-estate crisis in USA that spilled over worldwide. The world is turn out to be "smaller place". America and Europe are exploiting raw material less and less and become dependant on the import of those from around the world. Former exploitation and production became ballast to the environment [environment burdens]. One day factories and mines were closed or reorganised to different production activity and doing so reduced burden to the environment. The consumption of the product remained or was increased even more. In other words, some one else is producing that product. The production shifted among states moving the environment burdens with it. The aim of this document is to provide an overview of impacts relevant to the use of metals zinc, aluminium, nickel, iron and tin; quantification of physical import and export and calculation of international trade balance of before mentioned metals and analysis of six ores. Those aims are supposed to assist us on answering questions to which extent Czech...
Subjective well-being: Approaches and evaluations in EU - 15 and the Czech republic
Hemala, Jakub ; Trnka, Radek (advisor) ; Třebický, Viktor (referee)
The main topic of the diploma thesis "Subjective wellbeing: approaches and evaluation in EU-15 and in the Czech Republic" is the subjective wellbeing and its conceptualization, especially the importance of this concept in the field of measurement and assessment of the progress and of the development of societies, which are sustainable. The thesis analyses the documents, which are published in the countries of EU-15 to cover the topic of the national strategies for sustainable development. The analysis considers the extent of the relevance of these documents from the perspective of including the concept of subjective wellbeing (with happiness, quality of life, satisfaction) in the texts and it also examines the wellbeig indicators, which are implemented in these texts and which are relative to the factors with certain influence on the level of personal or social wellbeing. The analysis is interested in the study of Czech documents relevant to this topic as well (The Czech Republic's Strategic Framework for Sustainable Development and Progress report). The aim of this particular study is to identify the expressed explicit and also implicit signs of the subjective wellbeing. The last part of the analysis tries to answer the question, whether the required data, which can be used for the construction of...
