Swedish foreign policy during early years of Charles XI's reign
Liška, Martin ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Valkoun, Jaroslav (referee)
- The thesis is focused on Swedish foreign policy during the period 1660 - 1675, the early years of Charles XI's reign. Although Sweden is considered as an empire practically all over the 17th century, from the economic point of view it was a weak country. Sweden was totally depending on financial help from its allies, especially during periods of peace, as it was the case between 1660 and 1675. This fact belongs to the main aspects influencing the Swedish foreign policy at this time. Main part of the thesis is dedicated to relations between Sweden and other European states. The most significant were the relations with France and Denmark, since France was the ally which provided Sweden the needed finance. The role of Denmark was also essential because of its geographical position as neighbouring country to Sweden. The thesis indeed discusses relations to some other states that played an important role as well - England, the Netherlands, Brandenburg, other German states, Poland and Russia. The aim of the thesis is not just to analyse the Swedish foreign policy, but even to answer questions if there was any alternative or if the way this policy was conducted was the only possible one and also, if such policy can be considered as success or failure. These questions are answered at the final part of...

The Russia policy of Germany 1917-1918
Šulc, Jakub ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Tumis, Stanislav (referee)
German foreign policy and military activity on the Eastern Front between 1917 and 1918 was primarily determined by effort to make peace and to stabilize the situation there, which would allow the transfer of command of the German troops to the western line. There was necessary to determine the current impasse before landing of the first sections of the United States in the spring of 1918. Their presence would reverse the current ratio of balanced forces of both warring parties against the Germany. This policy has been influenced by several interconnected factors. Besides the already mentioned time limit on troop movements between fronts there was a important relationship with the new Government of St. Petersburg from November 1917. Despite the Germans initially envisaged cooperation in the negotiations on the basis of support for the Bolsheviks on their way to power, but then there was a fundamental contradiction and friction surfaces, which were partly caused by the differing views on the spread of revolution among the Bolsheviks themselves. Ambivalent relationship between Germany and Russia had not stopped the signing of Brest-Lithuanian Peace 3rd March 1918, but continued after, until the surrender of Berlin in the autumn of 1918. Both regimes is to achieve its goals could not miss each other when the...

Kettner, Josef ; Picková, Dana (advisor) ; Stellner, František (referee)
At the end of the 15th century the hitherto cordial relations between LithuaniaPoland and Muscovy that had prevailed in previous decades to ok on a strongly confrontational nature. It is this initial phase of clashes between these two states that I have selected as the theme of my work. In this thesis I have attempted to both outline the mutual relationships of the rulers of these states before, after and main1y during this conflict, as well as their approaches to it. The conflict is placed within the wider regional context, as it was the attitudes of neighbouring states in both eastem and central Europe that had an impact on the outcome of the first Lithuanian-Muscovite War. The work is written in chronological order and split into 5 chapters. The introductory chapter (Lithuania, Poland and the State oj Muscovy over the centuries) is dedicated to the development of the Lithuanian state and the Russian lands from the 12th century to the year 1485. The main focus of attention here are the events that influenced affairs within the two countries and the relationship between them. The next four chapters are the heart of the work. Chapters two and three (the Start ofBorder Clashes 1486-1490 and Unrest in the Shadow ofthe War Jor the Hungarian Throne 1490-1492) describes the mutual relations between Lithuania and...
Political and economical development of selected COMECON countries in the seventies and eighties
Szobi, Pavel ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Jakubec, Ivan (referee)
The Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (Comecon) was an organization which was founded much more because of political than economic reasons. During the first years of its existence it was a soviet power instrument to control the economics of the Eastern Europe and later it became a middle o so called socialist economic integration. The most important part in it played the German Democratic Republic and Czechoslovakia, countries with the best developed industry in the soviet bloc. Their economies supported less developed allied countries and lastly also the Third world countries which assumed the idea of communism. Often comparisons of the Comecon to the West European integration caused that the Eastern bloc tried to establish cooperation with the European Economic Community and to imitate its success. But an analysis has shown the pointlessness of these attempts. The Eastern bloc wasn't able to reform its institution for an economic integration and the downfall of totalitarian regimes automatically leaded to the Comecon decline.
On the Social Position of the Jewish Minority in Germany, 1871-1890
Plíčková, Helena ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Tumis, Stanislav (referee)
The thesis deals with the social position of the Jewish minority in Germany during the first decades of the Second Reich; it is intended as a contribution to the social history with an emphasis on the history of everyday life. It attemps to answer a question, why despite (what seemed to be) a highly successful assimilation, or more precisely acculturation, the Jews became a target of hateful attacks again in the late 1870's and 1880's. Various methods have been applied to determine, firstly, how the German-Jewish family life looked, whether and how its education approach and job structure differed from those of the majority; secondly, in which way the social-economic situation affected the minority position, its participation in public life and its attitude to the recently estabilished state; and last but not least, the way the German-Jews understood and perceived themselves, as well as the East European immigrants (so called Ostjuden) and the public's anti-Semitism. The result of the study shows that the German-Jewish values and customs were mainly identical to those of the bourgeoisie, probably with an endogamy being the only specific feature. At the time of rising Conservatism and in spite of experiencing bitter disappointment at the again appearing anti-Semitism, their optimism and trust in...
