Tiny House - Reasons and obstacles of living in a small space

Práce se zabývá fenoménem tiny house, tedy malými funkčně zařízenými stavbami. Teoretická část práce na základě rešerše literatury představuje tuto stavbu i sociální a architektonické hnutí, které se kolem tohoto způsobu bydlení vytvořilo. Hnutí propaguje žití na malém prostoru, omezování spotřeby a větší environmentální šetrnost jakožto prostředek ke zvýšení kvality života (Anson, 2014). Empirická část se zaměřuje na obyvatele těchto staveb na území České republiky. Klade si za cíl porozumět, co bylo důvodem k pořízení domku, dále pak jaká pozitiva a negativa bydlení přináší. Na základě polostrukturovaných rozhovorů a analýzy sekundárních dat, práce dochází k závěru, že se jedná především o biografické řešení systémového rozporu, kterým je krize bydlení (Beck, 2011). Na výsledné podobě tohoto řešení se podílejí panující kulturní normy v oblasti bydlení. Tiny house tak nemá být zhmotněním protestu proti současnému systému, spíše individuálním vypořádáním se s jeho nefunkčností. Vlastnictví domku přináší obyvatelům pocit jistoty, klidu, větší finanční nezávislost i prostor pro revizi hodnot. Zároveň se snižuje jejich ekologická stopa (Saxton, 2019). The Cult of the Mother Goddesses (Dao Mau) in Vietnam (with a focus on South Vietnam)

This MA thesis deals with the topic of the cult of Mother Goddesses in Vietnam with special reference to South Vietnam. The subject is discussed from the point of view of cultural anthropology and special attention is paid to some specific aspects, which differentiate this popular belief from other religions. The cult of Mother Goddesses is characterised in greater detail on the basis of certain hypotheses and is viewed through the prism of various ethnologically oriented paradigms. The first part of the work describes the development of this cult, its Vietnamese specifics and its position in the context of the local religious milieu. Furthermore, the work discusses the characters of the individual Mother Goddesses and the collected theoretical knowledge is compared with the results of empirical research. On the background of the example of Mother Goddess Bà Chúa Xứ, the work elucidates certain topics, which are related to the cult of Mother Goddesses, but are considerably differentiated regionally. It is therefore necessary to present these aspects by way of concrete examples and to see them in the cultural-historical context. Manifestations of Animism among Khmers in Cambodia and in South Vietnam

This doctoral thesis discusses the manifestations of animism among Khmers in Cambodia and in south Vietnam. The subject is viewed from the culturally-anthropological perspective and attention is paid primarily to the specifics that are present in the everyday life of Khmers. The paper characterizes the manifestations of animism within the scope of the selected hypotheses and perceives this topic through various ethnological paradigms. The doctoral thesis marginally introduces animism as a phenomenon, the Khmer as a people, animistic rituals, and traditional Khmer feasts. Furthermore, the paper focuses on the importance of the shaman and other spiritual figures in the Khmer religious conception, the topic of healing, rites of passage, specific Khmer supernatural entities, and places where they are worshipped. The entire thesis includes the comparison of theoretical knowledge with the results of empirical research in selected areas. Using specific examples, it is demonstrated that animism is a part of syncretism, which is still an important component of the Khmer culture and significantly influences important life decisions. Identification and quantification of biomarkers of gastrointestinal diseases using mass spectrometry

6 Abstract This thesis focuses on the identification and quantification of volatile metabolites in the exhaled breath that might be used as possible biomarkers of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. Animal tissue samples were exposed to conditions simulating the gastric environment to identify specific volatile compounds that would be chosen for real-time quantification in exhaled breath of GERD patients and healthy controls using selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry. Solid phase microextraction, was used in combination with gas chromatography mass spectrometry, for qualitative analyses of the headspace of these samples. Only acetic acid was significantly elevated and so it has been elected for the quantitative analysis in the breath of the patients. The median concentration of acetic acid measured by SIFT-MS in the exhaled breath of twenty-two GERD patients was found to be higher (85 ppbv) in comparison to the control group (31 ppbv). The results show that breath acetic acid could be valuable marker for GERD diagnosis and monitoring.
