Pavlíková, Veronika ; Malá, Kateřina (advisor) ; Pokladníková, Jitka (referee)
The attitudes toward the treatment and knowledge about hormonal contraception among the final year pharmacy students Author: Veronika Pavlíková¹ Supervisor: PharmDr. Kateřina Ládová, Ph.D.¹ Consultant: PharmDr. Anna Oleárová, Ph.D., MPHš ¹Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University, Czech Republic šDepartment of Organisation and Management of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovak Republic Introduction: Hormonal contraception (HC) is ranked among the widespread birth control methods used in a broad age structure of women worldwide. Based on of the health status, lifestyle, user's preferences or non-contraceptive benefits, it is possible to choose from the wide spectrum of HC, which differs in dosage and composition. Aim: The aim of this thesis was to determine the attitudes toward the treatment and knowledge about the HC among the final-year pharmacy students upon the completion of the mandatory 6-month long practical training in the pharmacy and knowledge acquired during the studies. Methods: The on-line survey was the realized in students of faculties of pharmacy in the Czech Republic and in the Slovak Republic, who had already completed the mandatory 6-month long practical training or who have just been...

Modulation of murine immune reactions by selected helminths
Pavlíková, Veronika ; Chanová, Marta (advisor) ; Leštinová, Tereza (referee)
Currently, the use of helminths in alternative treatment of immune mediated diseases is an attractive topic. Their therapeutic potential is justified by the ability to modulate the host immune system. To test this potential, we chose the flukes of Schistosoma mansoni, which is known to immunomodulate its hosts significantly, however also act as a strong pathogen. Due to high pathogenicity of classical infections we tried to compare its immunomodulation efficiency with alternative interactions of S. mansoni with the host. We tested a low-dose infection, nonproductive infection, immune stimulation with living or dead eggs (antigens) and restimulation by both, living and dead eggs. Stimulation with eggs was, for the short term, most effective in suppressing inflammatory immune response. From the long term point of view, low-dose infections. were most effective. Use of egg antigens has affected the immune system very poorly and nonproductive infection had no effect at all. Induction of experimental colitis and differences in the subsequent development in various models partially confirm our findings.
Cognitive Analysis of Temporal Prepositions in Czech
Pavlíková, Veronika ; Lehečková, Eva (advisor) ; Vaňková, Irena (referee)
The present thesis deals with temporal prepositions in Czech from a cognitive and constructional grammar perspective. It aims at demonstrating how one conceptualises time, the emphasis being put on time conceptualised as space. The introduction of the thesis presents a brief summary of the terminology. It is followed by the theoretical part, which has three sections. The first one engages in the characteristics of Czech prepositions; the second one presents cognitive approaches to the analysis of English temporal prepositions; and the third one discusses the methods of analysing English temporal expressions within the framework of constructional grammar. The practical part deals first with a table, in which we analyse all the sample sentences of the prepositions we focus on. Attention is paid to the individual features examined and their relevance in the table. We also discuss the methodology used to form the final version of the table. This is followed by the characteristics of the individual prepositions itself and by recording their meanings into constructions. The last section of the practical part presents the results of the analysis. In the conclusion, we summarise the results of the individual analyses, i.e. both the analyses of the individual specific samples of the prepositions, and the...

Helminths as a therapeutic tool for autoimmune diseases
Pavlíková, Veronika ; Horák, Petr (advisor) ; Panská, Lucie (referee)
There has been recorded a sharp increase in autoimmune diseases in developed countries recently. These include inflammatory bowel diseases, multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes and various types of allergies. Treatment is being complicated with alot of adverse effects. That is why we are searching for safer kinds of therapy which also includes helminth therapy. These organisms are able to supress immune responses and by that the inflammation in the body is being supressed. Helminthic infection brings minimum adverse effects compares to classic treatment. Because of this it seems to be a good alternative in treatment of this type of disease.
