Pylyp Orlyk and International Relations in the 18th Century Europe
Poian, Lucie ; Mokryk, Radomyr (advisor) ; Příhoda, Marek (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the foreign policy activities of Pylyp Orlyk (1672−1742), a close associate of Ivan Mazepa and Ukrainian hetman in exile in 1710−1742. While in exile, Orlyk repeatedly tried to sway the European courts to the idea of an autonomous Cossack state. This paper presents the ideological sources of his political orientation, analyzes the goals of his diplomacy, as well as the means by which they were achieved. Hetman's efforts are set in the broader context of European diplomacy in the first half of the 18th century and the context of the (proto)Ukrainian foreign policy tradition. The work has the potential to provide new insights into the historical perception of Ukrainian space in Europe, which makes it deeply topical. It draws on relevant monographs by Ukrainian and foreign authors and edited sources. Key words: Ukraine, cossacks, 18th century, Ivan Mazepa, autonomy, Rzeczpospolita
The role of Czechs in the investigation of the Katyn massacre
Pokorná, Adéla ; Tumis, Stanislav (advisor) ; Mokryk, Radomyr (referee)
The Katyn massacre was one of the most brutal acts of the Stalin era, which took place in 1940 and started a several-year hunt for the culprit. The Soviet Union's biggest rival was Nazi Germany, which did not want to be wrongly accused of murdering Polish officers. But the incident had a much bigger impact than it might at first look. The Katyn massacre also had a significant impact for the Czech context. As part of the investigations, special groups were formed, made up of leading experts, such as doctors and journalists. These groups included a few representatives from the Czech lands, thanks to whom we can take an even closer look at the whole event.

Knappová, Alžběta ; Chlaňová, Tereza (advisor) ; Mokryk, Radomyr (referee)
The thesis deals with the image of Donbas as a unique topos in selected works of contemporary East Ukrainian writers. Throughout the last century, the symbolic value of the region, determined primarily by the peripheral character of the area and the dominant industrial nature of the landscape, has been shaped in Ukrainian culture. Nowadays, as a result of the social developments of the last decades, and especially due to the ongoing war, the forms of the symbolic geography of the region are substantially re-evaluated and updated. The first part of the thesis outlines the historical development of the region and the dominant myths and metaphors of the Donbas associated with it - these function as a backdrop for the examination of the current literature. The core of the thesis is the analysis of selected literary works of authors coming from this region; these are mainly the works of writers Vladimir Rafeyenko, Serhiy Zhadan and poet Lyuba Yakymchuk. The specific nature of the literature of the borderlands and the representation of collective memory serve as the interpretive frameworks. Against their background, the thesis examines the depicted forms of otherness, the relationship between the periphery and the centre, the symbolic construction of space and sites of memory, and the staging of memory...

Mokryk, Radomyr ; Tumis, Stanislav (advisor) ; Bakula, Boguslaw Leszek (referee) ; Kalina, Petr (referee)
This dissertation thesis focuses on a topic that is of growing interest among scholars, and for which there is still plenty of room for analysis and interpretation, namely the role of the Ukrainian Sixtiers during the Khrushchev Thaw in the USSR in the period 1956-1964. This cultural phenomenon is analysed within a broader socio-cultural context with the help of the approach of colonial studies. The key research question is "How did the worldview of the Sixtiers develop during the Khrushchev Thaw (1956-1964) from the point of view of colonial studies and how was this reflected in their literary works?" The first chapter describes the historical, political and cultural context of this period. It includes an analysis of the circumstances surrounding the proclamations made in Khrushchev's secret speech in 1956, the beginning of the policy of de-Stalinization, and its impact on the political and cultural life in Soviet Ukraine. Particular attention is paid to the development of the official discourse of socialist realism as an official and dominant cultural concept, which was to be applied in artistic and literary works. The main principle of socialist realism, so-called "internationalism", is analysed in terms of its role as an element of colonial discourse. The second chapter focuses on the...

Švomová, Věra ; Chlaňová, Tereza (advisor) ; Mokryk, Radomyr (referee)
The bachelor theses discourses about Czech puppetry in Subcarpathian Ruthenia in the 1918- 1938 period. Since this topic has not yet been academically approached, I based my study on information collected from archival sources and contemporary periodicals and - regarding family marionette theatres - on information obtained from Ms Dana Kesnerova, an owner of such a theatre. In the theses I attempt to answer the question of to what extent the puppet theatre was used as a means of enlightenment, and I bring so far unpublished findings of puppetry in garrisons in the eastern part of the country, of usage of puppetry in the demanding edifying field, of the spread of puppet theatres in schools, and of puppetry in regional physical education clubs. An essential part of the theses is dedicated to family marionette theatres. These elemental chapters are preceded by a short introduction of education and cultural standards in Subcarpathian Ruthenia, introduction of traditional Ukrainian puppet theatre - the vertep - and a brief familiarization with the puppetry phenomenon in Czechoslovakia. In the final chapters I outline the fates of Subcarpathian Ruthenian puppeteers after the cessation of the First Czechoslovak Republic in autumn 1938. Keywords puppetry, Subcarpathian Ruthenia, Czechoslovakia, public...
