"It must have been the nigger blood in him": The Mechanism of Lynching in William Faulkner's Light in August

Race and the American South are inseparable from both the literary work of William Faulkner and the practice of lynching. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the mechanism of lynching in Faulkner's novel Light in August. Lynching served as a racial and social control tool to scare Black Americans into submission and acceptance of a lower social rank. Black people were cruelly treated - shot, beaten, burned alive, tortured, or hung from trees. The thesis argues that the character Joe Christmas from Light in August is a victim of such practice when he is hunted and shot on the pretense of being a Black criminal. The thesis explores how his identity has been created by the communities - first as a Black man and then as a Black criminal. From his early childhood, Joe Christmas has passed through different communities that created assumptions about his racial origin. Since his race is never revealed in the book and Joe is unsure of it himself, his racial identity is socially constructed as a Black man. His Blackness is further stereotyped by two myths - the myth of the tragic mulatto and the myth of the Black rapist. The myth of the tragic mulatto is based on the notion that a person of mixed Black and white origin does not belong anywhere and is doomed to end tragically. The idea of the Black rapist...

Church of the Brethren in Mladá Boleslav at the time of its creation

In thesis I will focus on the church of the Brethren in Mladá Boleslav. Except the characterization of constructional and historical development of this structure, I will do the analysis of paintings in the interior of this building, where were mostly used ornamental motifs. However, primarily I will devote to the details of decoration of the eastern part of this building for which were used quotations from Scripture. I will compare painting decorations with contemporary prints, which were made by members of the Unity of Brethren. I will focus to some similarities of ornamental and typographic decoration. Further, I will briefly mention the architect of this building - Matteo Borgorelli and his other buidings. Marginally I will also devote to conditions, which the Unity of Brethren had in Mladá Boleslav in 16th century.

The marketing plan and it´s execution for ATLANTIK FT, a. s.

Nowadays, marketing tools are the key factors to enforce the market as well as to seek new customers. Therefore, marketing planning should be the integral part of any enterprise that wants to succeed in markets. The aim of this Diploma Thesis is to point out the practical aspects of how to process the marketing plan of a particular product. On this basis, it will be able to find the result of the real compliance between theoretical methods how to prepare a marketing plan, generally described in literature, and the real practice. The theoretical part describes general information about the marketing plan and its particular parts, as well as their preparation, implementation and verification. The rest of the Thesis is focused on the description of the real preparation of the new product called eATLANTIK within a company ATLANTIK FT, a. s.. It consists of initial impulse based on the long-term strategic goals, through the preparation of specific parts of the marketing plan. The following methodological tools were utilized in the Thesis: observation, description, deduction, comparison, and other applications.
