Smečno, and Art of the Late Gothic Era in the Service of the Martinitz Family.

(EN) The Bachelor Thesis will map the fond of the Late Gothic Era made up of the works connected to the Martinitz's residential city of Smečno. The fond includes: the castle chaple of St. Anne and its furniture, the Ledce Altarpiece, the Smečno Madonna etc. The aim is to base the core of the thesis on archival research and the stylistic analysis of the artworks. Space will be further given to a survey of the artworks' further fates before and after the year 1918, in which the influence of the Martinitz family, or, since 1792, the Clam-Martinitz family, was interrupted in Bohemia and therefore also at Smečno. Due to historical events some of the artworks from Smečno found their way to other places and institutions, like the National Museum or the National Galery in Prague, by which their coonnection to Smečno was often severed. I will try to connect the artworks with specific locations at Smečno, the Church of the Holy Trinity and the castle chapel of St. Anne, and with the commissioning activities of the Martinitz family. Baba housing estate - history and present Eliška Varyšová Abstract (english version) Abstract The work Baba housing estate - history and present deals with a phenomenon of functionalist exhibition colony in Prague district Dejvice. The history and European context were compiled in two monography publications, in that reason autor tries to research an afterwar progression and especially a present state of individual houses from the view of monument preservation. The work is divided to three parts. The first part focuses on European context and formation of housing estate, the circumstances of construction and results. The second chapter describes destinies of houses and place from 1948 to the present and issue of the preservation of the colony. The third part is a catalog of 10 houses that represent different approach to maintenance and preservation of housing estate. In the conclusion autor summarizes knowledge and tries to answer the question how to preserve a historic identity of place and an autenticity of houses and colony.

This bachelor's thesis deals with the Romanesque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Tismice. It gathers and evaluates existing research. It outlines the historical and art historical context. It thoroughly analyzes the architectural type of the basilica and its decorative elements. The thesis also raises questions about the precise dating of the church, the method of its foundation, or the issues surrounding later reconstructions of the church. In conclusion, the thesis interprets the church and places it within its contemporary context

Westwerk. A contextual analysis of the roots and meaning of the birth of the specific architectural element and its impact on not just carolingian but also later sacral architecture in Europe.

The essay hereby submitted concerns itself with the genesis of the architectural element generally known in art-historical studies as westwerk/westwork and originating in the Carolingian times of the eigth and ninth centuries. Methodologically the topic is approached from two mutually opposite perspectives. One, in the vein of the Vienna Scool, pays attention to the development of westwerk's form, i.e "from within," while the other favours the view "from outside," and stresses the cultural, political and other influences of the historical time.It also take into account the receptive approach of Ernst Gombrich. The main reason for wfiting this essay, however, is the fact that no special work has as yet been dedicated to the westwerk phenomenon in the Czech environment, aven though its influence on the local architecture was far from negligible.

Aloisie Czernin-Morzin's Patronage of Architecture (1832-1907)

The topic of this thesis is the Countess Aloisie Czernin-Morzin's rich patronage of architecture on her lands, such as Maršov or Vrchlabí. It includes building of churches, chapels, industrial buildings, public buildings and conversion of castles. The most notable architects working for her were Josef Schulz, Stephan Tragl and Johann Koch. This thesis will also deal with Aloisie Czernin-Morzin's contribution to the final form of the buildings she funded.

Architectural and historical research of the rural homestead Harazim Nr. 29 (Rájov, Zlatá Koruna municipality)

The aim of the diploma thesis was to carry out a detailed architectonical survey of the homestead Harazim (Rájov, village Zlatá Koruna), which has been registered as a cultural monument since 1958. The survey proved that the oldest building of the homestead is a granary, dating back to the first quarter of the 17th century. The still noticeable three-part layout of the dwelling dates in its entirety to at least the end of the first third of the 18th century. Both the granary and the dwelling were substantially reconstructed around 1865, when the so-called small building, the knowledge of which became a partial aim of the thesis, was lost.

The foundational activities of the Markvartic family in North Bohemia in the context of 13th century Central European architecture

My diploma thesis is focused on the foundational activities of the Markvartic family which is one of the most prominent families in Northern Bohemia of its time. In terms of the investigated area and period, the diploma thesis is a continuation of the author's bachelor thesis which was focused on the foundational activities of the House of Wartenberg which had a common ancestor with the Markvartic family. The work's focus is the evaluation of relics of preserved buildings in historical and cultural context, where their original feature was changed by later building measures. Every object will be described and analyzed using secondary literature, material and literary sources. The result of this method will be a short synthesis including the outline buildings stages of objects and their style evaluation. This method will be applied on the background of historical contexts, which represent connections of the Markvartics and royal court and the Cisterciensis, Dominicans and Johanites Order.

Interpretations of Solomon's Temple presented on example of Spanish El Escorial

The Temple of Solomon is one of the interests of a large number of scholars in many fields. Since ancient times, it is possible to find theoretical writings telling about what the biblical monument looked like. In the Middle Ages, many efforts were made to reconstruct this biblical monument. Just like the Middle Ages in the Middle Ages, they were more concerned with the spiritual meaning that the temple carried, and since the Renaissance they have also devoted themselves to the technical side of the building. This work describes several already existing and known reconstructions of the First Temple. Probably one of the most important buildings is the residence of Spanish king Philip II of Spain - El Escorial, which was built during the second half of the 16th century. In connection with the construction, an extensive study was created by Juan Bautista Villalpando, which was funded by the king himself. The work of a Spanish priest encouraged a new wave of interest in Solomon's legacy. Villalpando's research was used by Philip II. to build the new Spanish king's residence El Escorial. Which, in connection with a number of other details, gives the Spanish headquarters the status of "Reconstruction of Solomon's Temple". Vaults from the circle of Benedikt Ried

This bachelor thesis aims to examine vaults from the period between the end of 15th and beginning of 16th century which are attributed to the workshop of Benedikt Ried. Apart from his workshop, this thesis will also cover similiar vaults both in former Bohemian kingdom and other countries, which could have been connected to the works of Benedikt Ried. The thesis will also analyze the building techniques of the vaulting systems, describe the basic construction principles and summarize the scientific research of this topic from earlier researchers.

Problematical historical preservation buildings from the 2nd half of the 20th century on example of the Military building Abstract The bachelor thesis focuses on the problematical protection of buildings from the second half of the twentieth century. The historical preservation issue will be presented on the construction of a Military building, which was built in the style of Brutalism. This unique building of architect Jan Hančl will be monographically worked on and evaluated in a broader sociology context, together with related problems of its historical preservation. The recent circumstances, which led to a longtime covering using large billboards, will be clarified. The following removal of the advertisement provoked a lot of emotions and resulted in a complete demolition. The author of this bachelor work aims to take hold of this affair, and he points out the historical institution malfunctioning, which is slowly becoming a phenomenon. Besides ordinary art- historical methods, oral testimonies of direct participants were used, primarily of the professional public, along with the conservationists, and members of the club called Za starou Prahu.
