Reminiscence interview as a part of work with sick older people
Kubíková, Kateřina ; Šťastná, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Šámalová, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis deals with reminiscence and its use when working with sick elderly people. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the method of reminiscence and its primary functions with an emphasis on individual form. These theoretical bases are further applied to the target group of elderly patients. The practical part presents qualitative research based on semi- structured interviews with seniors suffering from long term illness. Data analysis using the method of interpretative phenomenological analysis proved that memories have a high potential to positively impact the senior patients and contribute to improving their quality of life. However, the effect of reminiscing is influenced by additional factors such as the senior's nature and his life philosophy. On the contrary, the approach to reminiscence is not influenced by the type of past experiences - difficulties experienced in the past are not, in themselves, a reason for a lower level of reminiscence. On the other hand, a possible negative phenomenon associated with reminiscence was revealed, namely, the stereotype linking reminiscence with unfulfilled old age. According to the research findings, shared memories further help to understand the values and needs of the elderly and the reminiscence interview itself can thus become a tool for...
Relationship between recent and Holocene mollusc fauna diversity of the Veľká Fatra Mts.
Kubíková, Kateřina ; Juřičková, Lucie (advisor) ; Horáček, Ivan (referee)
Quaternary molluscs assemblages are one of the most important sources of information used for palaeoecology and biogeography reconstructions, yet little attention has been paid to the informative value of quaternary profiles on a landscape spatial scale. In the area of Velka Fatra Mts., a large number of existing records concerning both recent and quaternary land snails enable us to compare Holocene and recent species diversity to estimate how many profiles are needed to evaluate species richness of such geomorphologically diverse area. In this study, available data are supplemented with samples from additional recent sites and quantitative analysis of material from quaternary profiles Stankovany and Skamenelá skala. In recent sites, 129 species of terrestrial molluscs were recorded (more than 72 % of land snail species occurring in Slovakia). Samples from all seven Holocene profiles yielded 93 species, covering more than 85 % of recent land snails diversity. On the other hand, only about 50 % of recent land snail species were recorded in a single profile, thus highlighting the importance of multiple profiles evaluation in palaeoecological studies.
Gender politics of Great Britain during the Premiership of David Cameron and Tony Blair
Kubíková, Kateřina ; Barša, Pavel (advisor) ; Bíba, Jan (referee)
(in English): The aim of the theses is to map the development of feminization of two main British political parties, Conservative and Labour party from the point of view of descriptive participation, i.e. women representation in the party and parliamentary structure. Incorporation of women organization into the party structure including also integration of women's concerns into the party manifesto is another topic presented in the text. Attitude towards women advancement and women enfranchisement based on the overall perception of women identity are also included. The second part of the thesis focuses on specific premiership period of Tony Blair and David Cameron with regards to the aspect of feminization mentioned above and legislative steps and their influence on life and position of women in wider society. As a part of the theses, the comparison of both terms of office, from the point of view of their attitudes towards women's issues and strategies of promoting women political participation, are involved.
Deemocracy and Sortition: Historical and Theoretical Perspective
Kubíková, Kateřina ; Bíba, Jan (advisor) ; Znoj, Milan (referee)
The thesis deals with the historical perspective of the sortition in the period of the Athenian democracy and the Italian city republics of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The thesis tries to reveal the potential of the sortition and the reasons why the sortition was used as a primary tool for choosing citizens for public offices. The objective of the thesis is to find the potential of the sortition for contemporary liberal democracy. The thesis follows two historical cases in which the sortition was viewed as a democratic (or civil) instrument that breaks personal relations and limits the power of elite groups in the society. In this sense, the sortition should help to widen the civic participation in public affairs, to provide equal and fair distribution of public offices within the society, and to prevent corruption and factionalism.
Evaluation of transdermal permeability of folic acid using methylparaben as marker.
Kubíková, Kateřina ; Berka, Pavel (advisor) ; Doležal, Pavel (referee)
In the theoretical part, there is briefly described the problematic of skin in the connection with transdermal permeability of substances. This part is followed by a general summary about transdermal permeability testing. Further on there were described the basic features of methylparaben and folic acid as substances used for permeability tests. Experimental part of the diploma thesis describes the testing conditions for in vitro testing of permeability of methylparaben and folic acid from the TRIS buffer, the TRIS buffer with propylene glycol (PG) (3:2), isopropyl myristate (IPM) and isopropyl myristate (IPM) with parafin oil (PO) (2:3) through the full thickness pig ear skin. Measured values of normalized fluxes of folic acid JKLn were as follows: from TRIS buffer: 1,00 ± 0,47, RSD 46,5%; from TRIS buffer with PG: 0,28 ± 0,11, RSD 40,1%; from IPM: 0,86 ± 0,72, RSD 83,4%; from IPM and PO: 2,08 ± 3,91, RSD 188,2%. The following average ratios of folic acid normalized fluxes and methylparaben normalized fluxes JKLn/JMPn from separate donors (and their standard devations and relative standard deviations) were obtained: from TRIS buffer: 0,98 ± 0,46, RSD 46,3%; from TRIS buffer with PG: 0,18 ± 0,09, RSD 52,2%; from IPM: 0,78 ± 0,77, RSD 98,9%; from IPM and PO: 1,76 ± 2,86, RSD 162,4%. The conclusion...

Deliberative Democracy and its Critique
Hučíková, Šárka ; Bíba, Jan (advisor) ; Labutta Kubíková, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis focuses on the theory of deliberative democracy and its critique formulated by Iris Marion Young. The first part of the thesis introduces the main principles of deliberative democracy, development of the theory, key concepts introduced by John Rawls and Jürgen Habermas which influenced the theory and the social choice critique of the theory. The second part focuses on Iris Marion Young's theory of communicative democracy which is in its core based on deliberative democracy, but seeks to make it more inclusive. Young criticizes some aspects of deliberative democracy for their inability to respond to the structural inequalities of today's societies. The second part of the thesis also explains the basis of this critique and presents possible solutions, which for Young is to admit to deliberation forms of communication other than argument.
Western Carpathians as diversity hotspot during the Quaternary climatic cycle
Kubíková, Kateřina ; Juřičková, Lucie (advisor) ; Horáček, Ivan (referee)
In the context of the entire Europe, the Western Carpathians is a unique area of priceless biological significance. Topological complexity, together with significant climatic and edaphic variability, is reflected in the high habitat heterogeneity and has enabled the survival of a large number of species in this area during the Quaternary climatic cycle. The Western Carpathians thus represents one of the most important glacial as well as interglacial refugium in Europe. The result of these environmental variables and the unique history of this region is an enormous species diversity, a high degree of endemism and the occurrence of many glacial relics. This bachelor's thesis contains a review of mainly zoological studies dealing with high biodiversity and degree of endemism in the Western Carpathians and its possible causes. The role of the Western Carpathians as an important Pleistocene refugium, its influence on other parts of Europe and the postglacial development of the area are discussed in individual chapters.
