Role of the US Foreign Policy Advisers

This thesis focuses on the role of the advisors in the US foreign policy, especially in the decision-making process, which constitutes a part of presidential system in the United States of America. The methodology of the conceptual part is based on individual typologies of presidential control of the US administrations. The thesis also describes evolution of this discipline, which in the USA is studied in the field of Foreign Policy Analysis. The conceptual scheme of the presidential control is based on the models by Johnson, George and Mitchell. The theoretical approach to the roles of advisors is patterned on the models of Mulcahy, Crabb and Hönig. The thesis combines these theoretical bases to describe and explain the evolution of presidential control typologies. Some problematic particularities of the Mitchell typology are also reviewed in this part. The next part based on the theoretical models analyses empirical reality. The analytical part constitutes of two case studies, which describe the role of the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs in the key deliberations of the presidential administrations of William J. The thesis investigates the topic of Russian-Chinese relations in the 1990s. The topic is limited to Boris Jelcin's terms of office. It inquires into the question of the continuity of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation in the field of relations with the People's Republic of China. For that end the thesis summarizes the development of mutual relations after the Second World War until the end of USSR. The thesis also describes the development of mutual relations in the 1990s. It also looks into the problem of the main motives of rapprochement in the 1990s.
Ekonomický nacionalismus jako historicko-sociologický fenomén

This thesis analyses economic nationalism from a historical perspective and it examines its forms and transformation based on the case study of France. The first chapter offers a brief introduction to the concept of economic nationalism. It places it into a larger context and it addresses its elements, forms and particularities. The following section attempts at a closer look at the doctrines of economic nationalism, emphasising differences in policy content in correlation with historical and political context. The third chapter closely examines the evolution of the French economic thinking within the process of nation-state building and economic modernisation. It attempts at tracing elements of economic nationalism and observing their transformation within changing historical circumstances. Finally, the last chapter focuses on the occurrence of economic nationalism within the French economic model in the twentieth century and under conditions of accelerated markets liberalisation and economic integration.
