The position and the function of the public service radio in the age of multimedia

The master thesis The position and the function of the public service radio in the age of multimedia deals with changes of production of Český rozhlas (Czech radio) from 2005 till the present time in connection with the beginning of multimedia technologies. The most important chapteres of the theoretical part introduce definitions of basic concepts which are important basis for the analytical part: multimedia, media convergence, concept of active audience, interactivity and digitization. Another chapteres deal with public service media and technological and cultural development in the territory of Czech republic. The aim of practical part is to analyze technological changes, which happend in Český rozhlas after beginning of multimedia era, by using the method of case study. The purpose is to do complex introduction of multimedia platforms by means radio mediates its production. Another aim is to find out, how multimedia influence interaction between radio and its audience. The master thesis focus on the analysis of social networks through which Český rozhlas communicates with audience. The text also deal with the question, if beginning of multimedia era influences forms of traditional formats of broadcasting or if new formats emerge.
Media image of czech fine art in czech media in 1948-53

The thesis aims to describe the media image of the czech fine art during 1948-1953 in the cultural periodicals "Kulturní politika", "Tvorba", "Var" and "Lidové noviny". It focuses on two topics that occurred most frequently in these periodicals;That is the definition of art and socialist realism and shaping artists and society. Social realism is characterized not only by description, but also by inspiration sources like Czech fine art of 19th century and the tendency to oppose competitive or similar artistic styles and trends like formalism, naturalism, academicism and kitsch. Shaping the artists and society is understood in terms of upringing, education and enlightenment. In connection with these two areas this thesis focuses on history, cultural policy of the Communist Party, the organizational structure of artistic production, distribution of art, shaping artists, penetration of art into public and private space, socialist realism and an attitude of visual artists to new conditions of artistic production. Different features were also included to capture the uniqueness of each periodical. The starting point of the thesis is a historical and qualitative analysis.
Regional press in region of Kolín 1945-1948

The thesis "Local press in the Kolín region from 1945 to the begin of the 60's" introduces the periodicals published in the Kolín region from 1945 to the begin of the 60's. In this period, the form of the Czech press has been changed distinctly. The freedom of press has been restricted and only a small number of periodicals had the permission to publish. All of them needed a license. In the first part of my work I'll start with picturing the Kolín region, sketching its historical development, the biggest part being dedicated to the period around and after the World War II. I'll focus on the political, economical, demographical and cultural events that took place in this time period in the Kolín area. The center of my work lies in the characteristics of the periodical press that has been published in the Kolín area from 1945 to the begin of the 60's, more specifically the information processing that I have been provided with in the Regional archives of Kolín. I will also make use of the contemporary press and secondary literature. The aim of my work is to find out what newspapers were being published in the Kolín area in these years, who published them, how difficult it was to actually publish periodical press and I will also mention the structure, graphic design, contents and prices of the newspaper.
Teplitz-Schönauer Anzeiger in the 1920s and 1930s

The Diploma Thesis "Teplitz-Schönauer Anzeiger in the 1920s and 1930s" explores the German-written journal which was published in Teplice-Šanov from 1861 to 1945. Firstly the years 1918 and 1938 are briefly described as they were crucial for history of the first independent Czechoslovak state; conditions for press printing during the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic are also depicted. Subsequently the modern history of the town of Teplice-Šanov is introduced, as well as cultural environment of the place. Last but not least the media landscape which the journal entered in 1861 is described. The main part of the Thesis aims at historical development of both journal and C.Weigend Printing Company from the beginning until its transfer under national control and subsequent end of publication in 1948. Each publisher of the newspaper is introduced: first of all the founder of the journal August Copek. Then the attention is paid to four generations of publishers from Weigend family. A sample of articles from years 1918, 1928 and 1938 serves as a source which shows the structure of the journal. The journalist Carl von Ossietzky and his reflectionin the czech press

Carl von Ossietzky (1889 - 1938) was a German journalist, pacifist and the recipient of the 1935 Nobel Peace Prize. He held to democratic principles and became a member of the political parties Demokratische Vereinigung (Democratic Union, DV) and Republikanische Partei Deutschlands. Ossietzky worked for the journals "Das Freie Volk" (official journal of DV), "Berliner Volkszeitung", "Nation" and "Das Tage-Buch". He also worked for the weekly magazine "Die Weltbühne", which was the forum of free expression during the Weimar Republic, particularly for leftist intellectuals; in 1927 he was named editor-in-chief. At the onset of the First World War he joined the pacifistic association Deutsche Friedensgesellschaft (German Peace Society, DFG), which tried to combat pro-war propaganda. He also worked for another pacifistic movement, "Nie-Wieder-Krieg" ("Never Again War"), and contributed to its titular newspaper. Ossietzky campaigned against German militarism and in his articles he pointed out the law-breaking of the Treaty of Versailles. The German government accused him therefore of high treason and brought him to court several times, culminating in his eventual conviction and incarceration in 1932. The rigorous thesis: "International Organization of Journalists (1946-1995)" deals with the history, development, aims and activities of the International Organization of Journalists (hereinafter IOJ) in the period from 1946 to 1995, thus since its creation in the year 1946 to the year 1995, when the last Congress IOJ in Jordanian Amman was held. The introductory part of the text is focused on a brief resumption of three most important international journalists' organizations, which were established before the year 1946 - the International Congress of Journalists, the International Federation of Journalists and the International Federation of Journalists from Allied and Free Countries. In the second chapter are first summarized history of IOJ and described main phases of IOJ's development - these are periodizated according to IOJ's Congresses. An integral part of the description and periodization is quotation of main international and Czechoslovak political circumstances, which had a real impact on the organization. The next text is followed by IOJ's objectives, aims, activities and structure. Finally, the IOJ's main persons and the curriculum vitae of the five leaders are mentioned. Periodical Press in České Budějovice 1945-1948

The thesis Periodical Press in České Budějovice 1945 - 1948 focuses on the specifics of the development of periodicals published in České Budějovice in the post-war era from 1945 to 1948. The first part of the thesis deals with the changes in political, economic and cultural spheres in České Budějovice after World War II because it is significant context that influenced the organization and the structure of the national and regional press. For a systematic interpretation of the media situation the thesis captures the characteristics of the periodical press in České Budějovice published in the period between 1938 and 1945. The broadcasting of the radio station was very important during the last days of World War II, because it formed the basis of the regional editorial office of the Czechoslovak Radio. Therefore it was not possible to omit this topic. Specific changes in the organization and structure of the periodicals in České Budějovice in the post-war period are elaborated in the fourth and fifth part of the thesis. Position of the weekly Hospodářský rozhled in the Contemporary economic thought

This diploma thesis examines the weekly Hospodářský rozhled and its position in the contemporary economic thought. Hospodářský rozhled was claimed to be an independent weekly. This thesis describes its role as an economic journal in the context of the era. The first part provides a general definition of the topic. Within this chapter, the economy and situation of Czechoslovakia between the world wars is described as well as the establishment of the weekly. The second chapter focuses on the structure of the weekly, main characteristics of the content and confiscated issues. The third part analyses the main topics of the examined period - monetary policy and disputes with agrarian and communist parties. In the fourth part, the main topics of the particular years are analysed and scrutinised. In 1938, international and national problems intensified which also affected the content of the journal. Despite the growing radicalisation, the periodical maintained consistently its line of thought over the analysed period. Hospodářský rozhled criticised authoritarian regimes and defended democratic principles. The journal often pursued the defence of industry and critics of agrarian sector. The image of the czech polities in german daily newspapers illustrated by the example of the presidential election in 2013

The aim of the diploma thesis The Image of the Czech Politics in German and Austrian Daily Newspapers Illustrated by the Example of the Presidential Election in 2013 is to analyse the media coverage of the first direct presidential election in Czech Republic in 2013 in German and Austrian daily newspapers. German periodicals Frankfurter Rundschau, Süddeutsche Zeitung and Die Welt and Austrian newspapers Der Standard, Die Presse and Salzburger Nachrichten were chosen for the analysis. German and Austrian press paid extraordinary attention to this election mainly because of the topic of the expulsion of Sudeten Germans from Czechoslovakia after the Second World War, which was reopened during the pre-election discussions. Moreover, one candidate, the former Czech minister of foreign affairs Karel Schwarzenberg, spent most of his life in Austrian exile which was another reason for the German and Austrian media interest in this election. The diploma thesis analyses articles about Czech election that appeared in the selected newspapers in the period from January 1, 2013 to March 31, 2013. It focuses on the amount of space devoted to the topic in the selected newspapers and on the coverage of the election considering both content and formal aspects.
