Orientalism or Ornamentalism?

Thesis "Orientalism or Ornamentalism?" is dealing with two rather different explanations of the nature of British imperialism. The work compares Edward Said's concept of Orientalism with Cannadine's Ornamentalism. Both concepts are not seen as contestant theories that have to be necessarily in a clash with each other. An opinion is presented that both theories aspire to explain and describe an identical subject - British Empire. Only they do so from different standpoints. As a way out of understanding them as a contradictory approaches is suggested "cubist thinking" of Empire.

Tobacco Directives

In my thesis, I summarized the main reasons for specific German position towards tobacco advertising directives. In my opinion, the main reason consisted in tobacco companies and lobby groups activity. Adoption of tobacco directive was partly inevitable, but the above mentioned interest groups succeeded (via Germany) in limiting the directive's impact and postponing its adoption. Long-term and elaborated tobacco company's strategy succeeded in persuasion the German public. They, inter alia, indirectly force them to believe that tobacco industry is essential for the German economic growth. In my opinion, the strategy was successful because of its complexity and sophistication. Even though Germany was not successful before European Court of Justice with its second action for directive annulment, it still indirectly achieved to limit the directive impact and postponed its adoption for several years. But at the end, Germany was also forced (under the threat of fine) to implement the directive into its legal system.

EU Innovation Policy in the Czech Republic

The European Union (EU) puts more emphasis on innovation as a key means for regaining and maintaining competitiveness, a trait it lags behind in when compared to its main global competitors. It therefore possesses a range of tools designed to support innovative activities of firms and to improve the overall environment of innovation in the European Union and Member States. This thesis outlines/describes the major milestones in the development of innovation policies in the Czech Republic and the EU and focuses on supporting innovation in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Czech Republic via measures derived from the EU's financial tools. Special emphasis is applied to the Operational Programme Entrepreneurship and Innovation (OPIE) that in the Czech Republic is the main tool used to support innovation in firms. The main problem areas that may pose barriers to active impact for this support are identified on the basis of programme documents, assessment reports, statistical data on the programmes and qualitative information yielded from interviews with firm representatives experienced in this type of support. Ten Years of the Welsh National Assembly: Closer to the Scottish Model?

Diploma thesis "Ten years of the Welsh National Assembly: closer to the Scottish model? (1999-2009)" deals with changes that took place in the last ten years in Welsh devolution settlement. The thesis works with the concepts of Scottish and Welsh models of devolution that arrouse as a consequence of assymetric devolution settlements that the Labour government established in the both regions in 1999. The assymetry derived from historical, political and practical reasons. Meanwhile the Scottish Parliament has been established as a parliamentary institution with separate legislative and executive, the Welsh Assembly took form as a elected institution with a corporative structure. At the same time, the Scottish Parliament obtained general primary legislative powers compared to the limited executive powers of the Welsh Assembly. From the beginning of its existence the Welsh Assembly seeked to change its devolution settlement to match the Scottish model of devolution. The Welsh coalition of Labour party and Liberal Democrats established the Commission on the Assembly's Powers and Electoral Arrangements under the leadership of lord Richard, which was active from 2002 to 2004. Architektúra a vývoj BI riešenia na platforme MS Dynamics AX 2012

This thesis deals with the analysis and design of business intelligence solution for the needs of reporting for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 platform. Solution includes development guidelines for possible development in future. In the first part of the thesis there is introduced ERP system MS Dynamics AX 2012 which serves as a data source for reports. The following sections analyze the data sources and the need for enterprise reporting. Significant part of thesis is the analysis and design of individual basic dimensions and indicators together with the proposal of data flows and architecture solution. In chapters 6-9 are described best practices for creating data warehouse through all the layers of development. In chapter 10 are unified guidelines for the development of different parts of solution such as dimensional OLAP cubes for case of additional customer requirements.

Business Intelligence in MS Dynamics AX 2009

The subject of the diploma thesis entitled "Business Intelligence in Microsoft Dynamics AX" is to analyze the functionality of the ERP system Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 in the area of Business Intelligence and Reporting with the reflection of the current market position of the company. The goal is to set the basic definition of the relationship between ERP and Business Intelligence systems, further defining the possibilities of MS Dynamics AX in BI in the terms of their practical use and also to describe the fundamental technological aspects. The aim of the work is evaluation and definition particular steps during implementation based on methodology MS Sure Step 2010 together with description of deployment process. As a reflection of insufficient coverage of some of the areas is mentioned solution of the company Circon Circle Consulting. Also is realized proposal for BI for AX cost accounting module, including designing data mart, ETL and report with respect to specifics, such as the parent-child hierarchies and many-to-many relationship between fact tables and dimensions. The contribution of this work is mainly evident for the consultants of the system, to who is provided insight into the important and for users attractive functionality and also is offered possible implementation process. Technically oriented readers may appreciate the solutions for Cost Accounting and potential approaches to the concept of data mart or other areas where they meet the above-mentioned aspects.

Backup and recovery of Oracle Database using Recovery Manager

The bachelor's thesis discusses the implementation of backup and recovery of Oracle database using Recovery Manager. There are described individual backup types available in Oracle database environment and recovery types. Author introduces the benefits of using Recovery Manager, as the main backup tool in comparison to other methods of performing backup / restore.The reader is acquaint with the results of tests of the possible backup types. The tested features are speed of backup operation, the availability of the database during the backup, the compression ratio and the speed of restore operation. Base on the comparison of these results is set the backup and recovery strategy for the database of two model companies.
