Basic military service in the Czechoslovak people's army in years 1970-1980

The aim of the thesis is a reflection of the phenomenom military service in the Czechoslovak People's Army in the seventies of the twenties century in the men's collective memory who fulfilled military service in these times. The research was based on a narrative analysis data which have been obtained during oral history interviews with contemporary witnesses. Then, the data were compared with written historical sources. The thesis is focused on a soldier's everyday routine in the military service. The empirical part is focused on the reflection of the military service from the view of narrators.

The diploma thesis is focused on the town of Habry and its everyday life. It deals with the life changes of local inhabitants in the period from the late sixties to the present. The main objective is to report on the changes in everyday life as they are perceived and reflected and evaluated by the local inhabitants. The thesis focuses on the fundamental topics of life in countryside. The research focuses on both the areas of employment and the closely related themes of transport, civic amenities, leisure time and important historical moments. The thesis is aimed at the changes that occurred in these areas in Habry during the concerned period. This thesis is based on field research, which is based on the method of oral history and acquired semi-structured interviews with local inhabitants. The practical part is preceded by a theoretical part, which proceeds from professional and thematic literature. The sources of information in this area also include the locally focused press and literature, including archive documents maintained by the Habry Municipal Office. Rear Soldiers Perspective during the Vietnam war (1965-1973)

In this diploma thesis, I deal with the everyday life of military personnel stationed in the main American bases in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War (1965-1973). The research is based on the analysis of oral history interviews with veterans that served in various occupational specialties in the rear of American armed forces. I'm describing specifics of the military service of witnesses from their entry to the armed forces, training, Vietnam experience, to their homecoming. I'm trying to analyze specific topics that are connected with the experience of military life in Vietnam, especially off duty hours of personnel. 1z1 Abstract: In this thesis, on selected examples of everyday life, I deal with the issue of reso- cialization of former political prisoners from the 1950s after their return from prison. On selected biographical narratives, I point to personal ways of reintegra- tion into society, whose main ideology was the cause of their persecution. From their memories I choose the basic sphereas of life such as family, personal and social life, employment and the issue of rehabilitation not only at the personal but also at the social level. A special chapter is also devoted to the descendants of former political prisoners, whose memories illustrate the view of everyday life after their imprisonment and the subsequent return of their parents and thus re- veal the real impact of persecution activities of the communist regime in Czecho- slovakia.

In the Master thesis I deal with the topic of the professional and personal life of diplomats working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic/Czech and Slovak Federative Republic and Czech Republic in the 1980's and 1990's. In the background of historical context it is focused on performing of diplomats foreign duties, working issues, achievements and challenges, everyday routine will not be omitted. Specifically it will reflect themes of preparing to leave abroad, to socialize in given country, everyday duties, family life and a free time. Primary source of the Master thesis will contain of the interviews led by method of oral history.

The Rise and Fall of CSLA?! Military profession (1960-1970) in the collective memory of the officer corps Jiří Hlaváček Abstract: The aim of this dissertation thesis is the reflection of everyday life and the (transformation) of the professional identity of the officers' corps in the 1960s in the collective memory. The research is based on narrative analysis of oral-historical interviews with witnesses who served in the Czechoslovak People's Army during the period under review. Memories of witnesses are compared with other types of historical sources. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the problems of everyday life in the socialist type army. The content analysis focuses on the motivation of witnesses for the choice of the military profession, the specifics of military life, ideology in the army, the relationship between the soldiers and the public, as well as on the combat readiness and role of the Czechoslovak army in the eventual potential cold-war conflict. The second part of the thesis deals with the actions of actors on the background of event history. It is followed by the reflection of the Prague Spring, the August occupation of 1968 and the subsequent normalization of the army in the early seventies.
