French Lexical Borrowings in Conterporary Bulgarian Language

This Bachelor thesis is focused on lexical items of French origin in contemporary Bulgarian language. These items are being analyzed lexically, phonetically, morphologically and semantically, this analysis shows their adaptation and assimilation process into the Bulgarian language system. Historical, social and cultural causes of French lexical borrowings in Bulgarian are part of the research as well. Language material of the research is based on the Bulgarian dictionary of foreign words (Пернишка, Е. и кол. Речник на чуждите думи в българския език.Наука и изкуство, София 2007).

Bilingualism of Russian speaking immigrants in the Czech Republic

(in English): This diploma thesis is focused on the Russian-speaking immigrants living in the Czech Republic, specifically on a group of those originating in Ukraine. It deals mainly with their speech behaviour during speeches in the language of the target country of their emigration, i.e., the Czech language, on the background of sociological, cultural and economic aspects. The thesis is divided into three basic chapters. The first chapter provides a brief description of the Russian-speaking emigration with the emphasis on the Ukrainian emigration. The main waves of the Ukrainian emigration from the end of 19th century to the present are described in this chapter. The target group of the study is the Ukrainian emigration after the fall of the communist regime in 1989 which is mainly concerned about the immigration of Czech compatriots and of labour emigration. Basic research strategies and the methodology of the study are described in the second chapter. Mainly qualitative research methods as well as quantitative methods were used in the thesis and the results of the quantitative method serve primarily to ensure the validity of the study during the linguistic analysis of individual respondents. Language practice of Bulgarian speakers in Czech linguistic environment

in English This work consists of five chapters: a theoretical part, which specifies the theoretical basis of the text (especially concepts related to bilingualism and language contact); methodological part, which specifies the objectives and methods of field research (identification of target group, subject of research, qualitative and quantitative methods, technical part of the survey); historical part relating to the origin and life of the Bulgarian minority in the Czech Republic; sociolinguistic part analyzing the sociolinguistic influences of Czech language on Bulgarian language; language part, analyzing the interference from language perspective. The objective of this work is sociolinguistic and linguistic analysis of the speech behavior of Bulgarian-speaking bilingual individuals in Czech linguistic environment, due to which to understand what impact a foreign language - Czech (E2) has on the mother tongue - Bulgarian (E1) in speech events in E1; which are the factors that cause it and how it is manifested in speech acts of bilingual individuals. Chrematonyms in contemporary Bulgarian, Czech and Slovak language

This thesis is aimed to describe and analyze the names of the restaurants which belong in the group of chrematonyms in the Bulgarian, Czech and Slovak language areas. There have been traditional names of companies in the all three language areas. However, after 1990 we expect the changes in the company name formation. The material we are working with is classified according to lexical motivation into the several motivation types. Our analyses based on the form and content of the names of restaurants. We particularly expect neologisms and anglicisms in the analyzed language areas as there is a strong impact of language globalization. Our evaluation is supported by the quantitative analyses of the company names. We follow the classification of Slovak company names by M.Imrichová. Then we compare and contrast our observations with the tendencies seen by M. Imrichová. Language situation by the Slavic nations in the Habsburg monarchy in the 19th century

During the historical development the larger part of the south Slavs (Slovenes, Croats, partly the Serbs and the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina) and the west Slavs (Czechs and Slovaks) had become the part of one state - the Habsburg Monarchy or the Austrian Empire and later the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The 19th century means for all mentioned Slavic nations the culmination of their tasks for emancipation; the stabilization of the language norm and the achievement of the intellectual entity. The historical and cultural situation in the common state during the 19th century opens areal, socio-linguistic and diachronic view on the codification processes by the particular nations, which are organized from one political centre by the common educational and administrative-political system. Secular education of better quality had led all the nations of the state to the cultural and political emancipation, which resulted in the destruction of monarchy. The first part of the work deals with the key moments of the history of the Slavs in the Habsburg Monarchy till the 19th century. Bilingualism management in the situation of language shift: Discourses, problems and the landscape of Belarus

Práce se věnuje managementu bilingvismu v situaci jazykového posunu, tj. tomu, jak se jednotlivci a organizace chovají vůči dvojjazyčnosti, jak s ní zacházejí, a to v situaci, kdy společnost přechází od užívání jednoho jazyka k jazyku jinému. Práce se konkrétně zaměřuje na vybrané, dosud méně zkoumané aspekty současné jazykové situace v Bělorusku. Analyzované aspekty zahrnují: 1) geosémiotiku a management jazykového posunu na nápisech ve veřejném prostoru, 2) management jazykových problémů se zaměřením na školství a 3) snahy o obrácený jazykový posun k běloruštině. Pozornost se přitom věnuje korespondencím mezi jazykovým managementem občanů a státních nebo jiných veřejných organizací. Cílem práce je přispět jak k lepšímu poznání jazykové situace v Bělorusku, tak k rozpracování některých sociolingvistických konceptů, jako je zejména jazykový posun a jazykový problém. Práce aplikuje teorii jazykového managementu jako obecný model jazykového posunu a jako instrument k diagnostikaci jazykových problémů. Při aplikaci teorie v uvedených kontextech se ukázalo jako užitečné rozšířit ji o koncept diskurzu a kolektivního jednání, které pomůžou konceptualizovat propojení mezi jednoduchým a organizovaným jazykovým managementem, respektive mezi mikrosociální a makrosociální rovinou. Balkanization versus europeanization - expressing ideological concepts (in Czech and Bulgarian)

The aim of this thesis is to describe the two terms - Europeanization and Balkanization - using the Czech and Bulgarian language data. Both of the terms are set in broader contexts of Europe and the Balkans as emerging concepts and the way they have been represented in Czech and Bulgarian. The relevant language data originate in the national corpuses - The Czech National Corpus and The Bulgarian National Corpus. All the examples have been divided according to their expressivity and prevailing subject, which means that we are trying to point out to both - the type of expressivity as well as the most frequent contexts in which the terms appear. The conclusions that have been drawn from the analysis are supposed to either confirm or refuse existence of primarily negative Balkan discourse, and primarily positive European discourse.

Language aspects of vituperative humor of Hašek's Švejk in comparison with his Bulgarian translation

The diploma paper consists of an introductory part, four chapters of presentation and a conclusion. The preface introduces Jaroslav Hasheck's novel and the person of its Bulgarian translator - Professor S. Ivanchev. The first chapter presents general methodological and theoretical matters. It pitches on the frequently negative contingent readers' reception of Hasheck's novel related to a lexical specificity of his - the usage of slang and vulgarisms; it examines the possible differentiation of the vulgarisms as inert and functional according their humorous effect; it alludes to the idea of a normative permanence and the justification of filthy words in the novel due to its thematic orientation; it sketches out the characteristics of the humour displayed in "Shveik"; it determines the theoretical indications and the functioning terminological apparatus, it lays out the possible links between humour and obscene words on the basis of the comical incongruity; it fixes on the problematic aspects of the translation - the diachronic aspect and its relationship with the constantly developing linguistic situation and the potential necessity of its actualization; it introduces the methods of excerption of the vulgar lexis and the terminological notional instrumentation of K.J.Obratill by outlining the thematic fields...
