Morphological relics of the dual in Russian, Czech and Serbian
Ivanova, Regina ; Giger, Markus (advisor) ; Gladkova, Hana (referee)
The master's thesis deals with the topic of morphological relics of the dual in Russian, Czech and Serbian. The aim of the work is to find, sort and describe all found relics in these three languages. The work gives a definition of the dual and indicates the causes of its disappearance and the possibilities of development in the language. In addition, the work contains information about what the dual category looked like in Proto-Slavic, illustrated on the basis of the dual number in Old Slavic, and in what form it is still preserved in Slovenian and Sorbian languages. The work also includes a brief description of relics in all Slavic languages, which gives the right to claim that some relics can be found everywhere in contemporary Slavic languages. Most of them can be seen in the names of paired parts of the body, declension and the concord and government of numerals. This is also confirmed by the detailed research of three selected languages - Russian, Czech and Serbian, whose dual relics form the practical part of the given work.
Imperfect in Bulgarian language and its equivalence in Czech language
Krasteva, Vesela ; Gladkova, Hana (advisor) ; Hrdlička, Milan (referee)
The subject of my work is imperfektum in Bulgarian language and its equivalence in Czech. The work is divided into three main parts. The first one describes a general characteristics of Bulgarian imperfektum. It is a tense with double temporal orientation representing an action realized in a specific moment in the past. The goal of the second part is to determine a way of finding a Czech equivalent of Bulgarian imperfektum. The theory behind this relies on analysis of relations between different pieces of translated text where the meaning or substance of the text after translation stays unchanged. The third part outlines examples of the imperfektum and its translated equivalents. The main goal of this work is to introduce the topic to the reader, and not to write it out.
Turcisms (orientalisms) in contemporary Macedonian press. Parallels and distinctions in use of the so-called Turcisms in Bulgarian and Macedonian publicism
Spasov, Manoil ; Gladkova, Hana (advisor) ; Milenkovik, Vojkan (referee)
Totéž platí do jisté míry i o tureckých frazeologismech. Morfologicko-sémantické klasifikaci turcismů vyskytujících se ve zvolených periodikách ale bude věnována samostatná kapitola. Kalky a...

Interplay Between Nomination Tendencies in the Language of Mass Media. The Case of the Analytical Adjectives
Vačkov, Veselin ; Gladkova, Hana (advisor) ; Rangelová, Albena (referee) ; Uhlířová, Ludmila (referee)
The thesis aims to describe and theoretically explain the range of complex nominal word structures and phrases that evolved in all Slavic languages with staggering productivity during the last decades. In particular, it focuses on the so called analytical adjectives, i.e. formally invariant lexical units mostly of foreign origin that manifest their attributive syntactic role (and the word class they belong to) not through a morpheme but through fixed word order position. The thesis rejects the view that analytical adjectives are first parts of compound words and explores several transitional cases. In more general terms, the thesis explores phenomena that test the boundary between words and phrases, morphology and syntax. It concludes that in Bulgarian there already exists a well established word subclass of analytical adjectives. They have resulted from an originally lexical innovation that has been grammatcalized due to intensive borrowings of words and phrase models mainly from English and their replication. The comparative study of present-day Bulgarian and Czech provides evidence of the strategies that the two genetically related languages use to achieve their nomination goals. The search for an explanation of the similarities and differences between both languages offers insights into their...
The paradigmatics of nouns in Grigorovich's prophetologium
Pilát, Štefan ; Gladkova, Hana (advisor) ; Čermák, Václav (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to offer a complete description of the dec1ension of the substantives in the Grigorovich's prophetologium (Grig), a Macedonian church Slavonic literary work from the end ofthe 12th or the beginning of the 13th Century, and on the basis of this description to establish the system relations among the various paradigms and herewith discover the development tendencies which are expresse'd in the dec1ension of the substantives of this literary work in the context of the church Slavonic literature of that time. It was accomplished a full exception of the substantives from the Old Testamental reading of the Grig. - For the correct understanding of the phonetic structure of the suffixes was made in the first part of the thesis an orthographical and phonetic analysis of the language of the Grig. In the second part of the thesis was interpreted the particular declension types of the substantives on the basis of the productive gender principle. In every type was separately analysed particular irregularities and specialities. - The conclusion of this thesis is that in the language of the Grig is clearly expressed within the dec1ension of the substantives a proces s of a transitio,n form the radical principle to the gender principle. To that is also related a clear disappearance ofthe...
Innovation processes in the Czech and Bulgarian language situation (based on media language material)
Niševa, Božana ; Martincová, Olga (advisor) ; Savický, Nikolaj (referee) ; Gladkova, Hana (referee)
The problems of the innovation processes in the present-day language systems have been essential to the current linguistic research. In general, this thesis is focused on a synchronic contrastive description of the types of innovation processes producing and inf1uencing the lexical dynamics of the Czech and Bulgarian languages. Doing so, it stems from the generally accepted view that, depending on the criterion applied, the individual innovation processes may be made correlative with various dynamic tendencies of a more complex and universal nature, L e. with signs of intellectualization and democratization, intemationalization and nationalization, terminologization and de-terminologization ofthe Czech and Bulgarian literary languages. Chapter I presents the methodological and theoretical starting points of the research. By means of a model designed by B. Havránek and developed by A. Jedlička, the following parallels between the Czech and Bulgarian language situations are being set in it: a) political and social changes in both societies and new orientation of interests of the members of the "language (communication) community"; b) widening the spheres of use of colloquial and non-literary linguistic devices; c) increase in the number of users of foreign languages, especially English; d) spread of new...
Bilingualism management in the situation of language shift: Discourses, problems and the landscape of Belarus
