Biblical Introduction in Jerome Hirnhaim's Theologia Universalis

The thesis "Biblical Introduction in Jerome Hirnhaim's Theologia Universalis" contributes to a deeper understanding of the early modern thinking about the Holy Scripture. Theological compendium "Theologia universalis" was composed by Jerome Hirnhaim, abbot of the Premonstratensian monastery at Strahov, in the second half of the 17th century, and was used as a teaching aid for the monastic clergy. The thesis analyses the extracts from the Hirnhaim's compendium which are dedicated to the questions of relationship between Scripture and Tradition, biblical inspiration, interpretation of the biblical text and laity reading of Scripture. A comparison with Robert Bellarmine's "De Controversiis" shows that Hirnhaim's lectures were largely based on this Bellarmine's work. Numerous correspondences between the Hirnhaim's compendium and Gaspard Juénin's "Institutiones theologicae", a textbook compiled for use in the French seminaries in the nineties of the 17th century, shows a trans-national character of early modern Catholic theology and teaching practice. Differences between the early modern and current view of Scripture can be observed in the area of pas-toral practice.

Jesus' Sayings on Discipleship in the Gospel of Matthew

The thesis deals with the Jesus' logia about vocation contained in Matthew 8, taking into account the synoptic parallel of the text in Luke. The original Greek text is, first, translated into Czech and then linguistically analyzed. The thesis further examines the original setting of the logia and their foundation in the hypothetical Q source. With the help of selected commentators (France, Hagner, Osborne, Fausti) are the logia and their meaning interpreted within the wider context of contemporary research. These modern interpretations are supplemented by views of the early Church Fathers. The method used in the present thesis is the analysis of the original text and a comparison of relevant commentaries.

Prayer in the parables in the Gospel of Luke

The Master's thesis Prayer in the Luke's Parables first deals with the definition of the parable itself: how the modern narratology understands it, how was this literary form used in the Old Testament and in the New Testament connotations. Further, it discusses the Gospel of Luke as a separate literary unit with an editorial plan regarding especially parables, and also describes the circumstances of its inception, the recipients, contemporary realities, etc. The next part outlines the basic teachings on prayer in the Church Documents. Then the thesis separately analyses both the grammar and the interpretation of three particularly important Luke's parables concerning prayer (L 11,513; L 18,18; 18, L 18,914). Their common contribution to Jesus' teachings on prayer is summarized in the conclusion.

A Reconstruction of the Crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth from the Archeological Evidence and Ancient Literary Sources

The thesis A Reconstruction of the Crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth from the Archeological Evidence and Ancient Literary Sources deals in nine chapters with the crucifixion phenomenon. Due to its dual approach it is divided into two major parts - general and specific. General part firstly presents the latest scientific treatises dedicated to this phenomenon (1), afterwards introduces the only archaeological evidence of crucifixion (2), analyzes semantical span of terms related to crucifixion (3) and ultimately defines the crucifion penalty (4). Specific part deals with the events of Jesus of Nazareth's case following the pronouncement of judgement. Attention is firstly paid to the flogging penalty (5) and afterwards to the analysis of the royal mockery game (6). Further it focuses on the transition scene, mainly on search for topography of the Way of the Cross (7). The Golgota chapters initially pay attention to the psychological abuse, perception of the crucifixion punishment, resemblance of Jesus' cross (8) and afterwards to the physical abuse and the search for causes of Jesus' death from the medical point of view (9). Aim of this diploma thesis "The Vocation of the Apostle Paul: Exegesis and Theological Aspects of Acts chs. 9, 22, 26 and Gal 1" is briefly present historical data of the Apostle Paul, present his personality. Especially it is concentrating on his conversion and vocation and New Testament texts that refer about this events (Acts chs. 9, 22, 26 and Gal 1). Part of this work is to analyze four reports of Paul's vocation. Thesis points on difference or conections between them. The thesis exposes vocation in context of biblical theology and symbol of light. This diploma thesis attempt to present St. Paul's personality and to show his merit for present. Exorcism in the Synoptic Gospels

The present thesis focuses on the topic of exorcism in the Synoptic Gospels. The introductory chapters characterize the practice of exorcism in the cultures of antiquity and Judaism, clarifying some of the specific emphases of these rituals. It then introduces the perspective of the New Testament on the subject, including a short list of terminology related to the designation of the enemy of God in the synoptics. Separate chapters are dedicated to Jesus' statements about exorcism, exorcism narratives and general reports. Each chapter treats in great detail the different exegeses, and the relevant terminological and stylistic peculiarities. The merits of the individual findings, which are summarized in the concluding chapter, are duly assessed from several perspectives, primarily biblical theology, but also underscoring some issues concerning pastoral theology and the practical applications of these findings.

MARRIAGE AND CELIBACY IN CHRIST ACCORDING TO 1 CORINTHIANS 7. The aim of this thesis is to show the light which in Jesus Christ newly illuminated two forms of human life: the married life and the celibacy. Thanks to the comparison of the Christian understanding of marriage and celibacy, as they are described in the New Testament, with the understanding of these forms of life in the Hellenistic world and in Judaism it gets to a differentiation of the accents typical for the period from those that are essentially Christian. A special emphasis is put on the seventh chapter of the First Letter to the Corinthians. By putting the message of this chapter about marriage and celibacy into the context of the whole Scripture and tradition of the Church, the thesis pursues another goal - i. e. a Catholic interpretation of the words of the Apostle. The chapter in question was many times in history explained as a glorification of virginity, while the interpreters often ignored the impact of this one-handed accent on the self-confidence of the Christian married couples. The Concept of Eschatology in the Authentic Letters of Apostle Paul

This bachelor thesis deals with the description of "eschatology" in the Apostle Paul's approach, namely in his authentic letters. Before the very beginning of the description or before the analysis of the Paul's eschatology, there is a preliminary definition of the term "eschatology" in the first chapter, what is meant by the term in a common preunderstanding. Further, there is the description of the eschatology and its former understanding in the Old Testament and its historical analysis in the early Judaism. There is a more detailed description of the Lord's day in the perspective of the Old Testament. The second chapter depicts Paul's typical approach of time, expressed by the phrase "already yes and not yet". The part of this chapter is also the Lord's day analysis from the Paul's point of view which is represented in the First Letter to the Thessalonians. In the third chapter there is the Church depicted as a eschatological value and the following chapter draws the earth reality of the Christian life. The fifth chapter (1 Cor 15) describes the Resurrection, one of the fundamental themes of the Apostle Paul. The Dynamics of the Spiritual Thirst in Therese of Lisieux and Mother Theresa of Calcutta

Dynamics of spiritual thirst is an expression of the exchange of love between God and human being, which is the basic motivation for any Christian ministry. When a man encounters Jesus' thirst for the salvation of men, a desire to respond to this love is enkindled in his heart, most of all by taking part in collaborating in the salvation of souls. The deeper is the unity of the soul with Christ, the more she takes part in His salvific thirst, i. e. she is consumed by the desire to calm His thirst working at the salvation of souls. Both the intercessory prayer of Theresa of Lisieux, who lived hidden cloistered life, and Mother Theresa's worldwide mission of merciful love came out of the same source. It means that the dynamics of spiritual thirst is the deepest motivation of any Christian apostolic work and ministry.
