Contribution to the investigation of the oldest history of the Telč Castle
Drdácký, Miloš ; Buzek, Jaroslav
The summary research report presents the results of research into the oldest building relics of Telč Castle. It uses radiocarbon dating of skeletal remains, non-destructive surveying by thermal imaging and ground-penetrating radar, and 3D photogrammetric reconstructions of the shape and dimensions of architectural elements. It also analyzes Templar traces in Telč region and in the wider region.
Style of locators - differences in triangulation
Loits, André ; Drdácký, Tomáš ; Buzek, Jaroslav ; Zadražil, Tomáš
The vast majority of contemporary European cities have their origins in the Middle Ages. ln our territory, most towns were founded from the beginning of the 12th century to the middle of the 14th century during the reign of the last Přemyslids. Urban city layouts are original, and although it is difficult to visually compare them at first glance, their apparent diversity shows certain rules and systems. This finding was verified by an analysis of 29 Czech and Moravian cities. The paper presents the results of the analysis of selected cities. The locator, commissioned by the then investor to organize the settlement of the new location, played a crucial role in the founding of the towns. Due to the number and close sequence of founded cities, it is probable that the cities were measured by experienced surveyors, with theoretical and practical knowledge of geometry. The complexity of the task, as well as the proven fact that a large number of cities have emerged over several decades, leads to the conclusion that there was a proven, somewhat routine approach to the site, which ensured certainty in the survey and the birth of a functioning city. The paper presents identified types of procedures for surveying the city layout in two modes of triangulation and corresponding four systems of initial base stations, from which the city and its boarder was delineated. The work loosely follows the text Triangulated medieval cities, published at the conference Architecture in Perspective in 2017 and summarizes the results of four years of research work.
Research report from the evaluation of the wooden construction of the movable roof of the garden pavilion Paraplicko in Cesky Krumlov Castle
Kloiber, Michal ; Bláha, Jiří ; Buzek, Jaroslav
The umbrella-shaped roof of the lookout pavilion can be lifted about a meter above the parapet wall by means of a unique lever mechanism. The impulse to write out the report was an order from the Český Krumlov Castle Administration with the seat of the Castle No. 59, Český Krumlov - Latrán which required to assess the condition of all important timber elements using NDT instruments and, in particular, to measure mechanical properties of wood. For that purpose the two apparatuses designed at ITAM were used to measure continually the mechanical resistance during the pressing of the jaws in the drilled hole and the resistance during the pushing of the steel pin to the surface. Gained results should contribute to design a gentle restoration of the unique lifting device
Triangulated medieval cities
Loits, André ; Drdácký, Tomáš ; Buzek, Jaroslav ; Zadražil, Tomáš
The paper presents a long term research work addressing sometimes not so evident values of historic cities, which are linked with geometric (urban) relations between the architectural elements set in cities. the position of city boundary (walls), market place and street layout was an intentional concept, not a result of unorganized building activities of new colonists. It is known from the archive and historic data, and verified by archaeological findings that the founded cities were planned. It is evident that cities seemingly different are organized following certain rules and methods. The work supports the hypothesis that original concept of the city survived in its pattern and structure until today and is one of the values expressing its individual and original identity. Hypothetic Medieval triangulation method, developed by André Loits is presented on case studies of České Budějovice, Kadaň and Klatovy. The method was so far used for the analysis of 30 selected Town Heritage Reserves and Zones and identifies two basi 'schools' in location concepts of studied cities.
Survey report: Construction and technical assessment of the state of timber, trace analysis and surveying of a timbered barn in Skalička 3
Kloiber, Michal ; Růžička, Petr ; Buzek, Jaroslav ; Hrivnák, Jaroslav ; Bláha, Jiří
Surveys whose aggregate output is this survey report included the determination of the extent of damage to the timber, surveying, and trace analysis of the original craftsman working of a timbered barn belonging to house no. 3 in the village of Skalička u Hranic, which is located in the Přerov district in the Moravian region called Pobečví. The report has been drawn in response to the demand by the Wallachian Open Air Museum located in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, which contained a request to diagnose the timber elements using NDT devices and carry out their trace analysis. The findings will contribute to a qualified assessment and proposal of a harmless transfer of this unique timbered building.
Repair of the parapet walk with battlements made from sandstone ashlar masonry with the regard to its visual authenticity and historic values – implemented sample procedure
Bláha, Jiří ; Kovářová, K. ; Buzek, Jaroslav ; Panáček, M. ; Cihla, M. ; Rafl, T. ; Hejný, L. ; Rybařík, V. ; Chamra, S. ; Schröfel, J.
The multidisciplinary criteria for selecting, preparation and processing of a replacement stone for ashlar masonry were implemented in restoration and conservation of the Castle of Kost battlements – one of the most authentically survived medieval fortification monuments in the Czech Republic. Detailed description of undertaken surveys, preparation and interventions carried out within the repair process.

Criteria for selecting, preparation and processing of a replacement stone for ashlar masonry restoration – sedimentary rocks
Bláha, Jiří ; Kovářová, K. ; Buzek, Jaroslav ; Panáček, M. ; Cihla, M. ; Rafl, T. ; Hejný, L. ; Rybařík, V. ; Chamra, S. ; Schröfel, J.
Geologists, structural engineers, construction historians, conservationists and restorers formulated their views on the relevant intensity of interventions, the replacement stone quality and also the parameters of processing by craftsmen. Methodical guidelines define the necessary level of adequate historical, technological and structural surveys and, subsequently, propose an optimal procedure for laboratory tests and for the following repair processes of a particular structure.

Survey report on the condition assessment of the Church of the Holy Spirit truss in Telč
Kloiber, Michal ; Bláha, Jiří ; Hrivnák, Jaroslav ; Buzek, Jaroslav ; Kunecký, Jiří ; Hasníková, Hana
The survey described in this report contains the condition assessment of the truss of the Church of Holy Spirit in Telč. The stimulus for the survey report was an order from the parochial congregation ČCE in Telč. The order included a request to assess the condition and identify the extent of wood-decaying damage to the truss of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Telč, focusing on the location of the critical spots, the classification of the damage degree, the determination of the extent of hidden damage using non-destructive devices, and the specification of the wood damage cause, including drawing of the results in the documentation on the current truss condition. Based on the results, specific procedures of repair measures were proposed and the elements proposed for the reconstruction were sketched in the documentation.
