United States and Latin America: The U.S. foreign policy and the need for a new direction

No other region in the world has been more intervened by the United States than Latin America. An increasing interdependence between both in terms of trade, security and energy has grown along with a new reality. New political currents in Latin America have favored to recover the sovereignty and self-determination of their countries, while gaining independence from the United States preferences and mandates. The aim of this paper is to analyze the historical approach of the U.S. foreign policy to Latin America since 1945 as well as the implementation of them, with the purpose of evaluate the current scenario. A rhetoric vs reality approach is conducted showing the need for a more coherent U.S. foreign policy both in the economic and the security agenda.

The Great Powers in Latin America - Comparison of the United States and the Chinese Foreign Policies

Latin America is in the last years a region who is receiving more and more global attention both on the economic and political side. During the last 30 years the region has gone through several changes allowing the Latin American countries to maintain a fast and stable economic and democratic growth which has attracted the interest of the two main economic powers, the United States and the People's Republic of China. Since the Monroe Doctrine, the United States has significantly contributed to shaping policy in Latin America. However, given the recent changes in the international system since the end of the Cold War, the U.S. influence has decreased probably as never before. This has allowed other international powers, precisely China, to enter the region and gain important economic and political partners. Given China's need for commodities, energy and the need for new markets for their high amounts of manufactures, Latin America has gone off very well in increasing its economical ties with China. However, it must not be forgotten that the United States still plays an important role in the region. The aim of this thesis is to compare the current foreign policies of the United States and the China towards Latin America, of where is the arm of the United States important, and where the Chinese one is.

Strategie Evropské unie v oblasti dopravy na obnovitelné zdroje energie

Cílem předkládané práce je nalézt odpověď na otázku, zda-li je EU schopná navrhnout a implementovat konzistentní, ucelenou a hlavně v praxi realizovanou strategii v oblasti dopravy na obnovitelné zdroje energie. Ty je možné chápat jako řešení dlouhodobých energetických a enviromentálních problémů za předpokladu dále se rozvíjejícího objemu dopravy v Evropě. Zůstává však otázkou, zda jsou přijímaná opatření dostatečně efektivní a ovlivňují rozvoj dopravy na obnovitelné zdroje energie i v praxi.

USA and China relations since the end of bipolar world

The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate that American policy is reactive to China's changing status in international relations and Sino-American relationship have gone through various phases since the end of bipolar world, but security remains the main component that shapes Sino-American relations until today. During the Cold War, the main aspect of the relationship was common security threat that diminished with the end of bipolar world. After that, economy became more important and China developed a comprehensive national power. However, with China's new power status in international relations came new realities in Sino-American relations driven by the security concerns again.

Družební vztahy v Evropě - studie případu družby měst Banyuls-sur-Mer a Kralup nad Vltavou

Tato bakalářská práce je věnována fenoménu družby měst v Evropě se zvláštním zaměřením na česko-francouzské vztahy. V první části přináší stručný historický přehled družebních vztahů v Evropě a analyzuje, jak se s dobou měnily motivační faktory sdružených měst. Zbývající část práce je případovou studií zkoumající družební vztahy Kralup nad Vltavou s jihofrancouzským městem Banyuls-sur-Mer, jež trvají trvají již přes 20 let. Kapitoly Zapojené subjekty, Systém financování a Politické pozadí zkoumají témata stěžejní nejen pro danou případovou studii, ale rovněž pro sdružená města obecně. V další části jsou popsány hlavní body programů během družebních cest do obou států, jakožto i kulturní odlišnosti a některá nedorozumění, jež tyto cesty provázela. Na závěr se práce nastiňuje budoucí vývoj družby Banyuls-sur-Mer s Kralupy nad Vltavou a zaobírá se i otázkou budoucnosti družby v obecné rovině.

The Role of Religious Leaders in Conflict Transformation

Religion has often been viewed as a source of conflict and violence in international relations. Yet history provides that religion has also been a source and inspiration for peace building and non-violent resistance. The role of religious leaders in conflict transformation has been treated as a marginal phenomenon. Appleby (2000) points out that identifying and documenting the roles of religious actors in resolving protracted conflicts remains an unfinished task. This thesis is an attempt to meet such challenge by focusing on religious leaders and their role in search of solutions in deeply rooted conflicts. Working from the premise that religious leaders can make a substantial contribution in conflict transformation, the overarching goal of this thesis is to examine what roles religious actors play and how equipped they are to serve their communities in their capacity as peacemakers.

Diplomová práce - Vývoj stanovisek Velké Británie, Německa a České republiky k evropské měnové integraci - zkoumá genezi stanovisek výše zmíněných států a hodnotí přínosy i negativa spojené s evropskou měnovou integrací. Práce je koncipována tak, aby vycházela nejen ze zkušeností státu, jenž prosazuje prohlubování integrace, ale také ze zkušeností státu, jenž brzdí prohlubování integrace. Díky syntéze rozdílných postojů a zkušeností je v závěru práce České republice doporučeno začít se připravovat na přijetí společné měny.

The Russian Geopolitics of Energy

This Thesis is titled The Energy Geopolitics of Russia and its main purpose is to analyze the energy geopolitics of Russia and the country's shifting energeopolitical pivot to Asia, especially to China. The Thesis is divided into three respective sections -- a theoretical approach, Russian geopolitics of energy, and one descriptive and exploratory case study. It strives to answer three main research questions considering Russia's shifting energeopolitical pivot, Ukraine crisis, and the development of Russia's foreign policy in regard to her energy geopolitics.
