The bilateral symposia have a long tradition and are organized on the basis of the agreement between DFG and AS CR every two year. They bring together selected scientists, who are actively involved in experimental and numerical solid mechanics, theoretically and practically, in order to exchange experience, to report on the present state-of-art as well as on running research projects, to discuss due questions and problems and to promote the co-operation between individuals as well as between institutions. Bilaterální sympozia mají dlouholetou tradici a pořádají se na základě dohody o vědecké spolupráci mezi Německým společenstvím pro výzkum (DFG) a Akademií věd (AV ČR) každé 2 roky střídavě v SRN a u nás. Cílem je zajistit dvoustranný pracovní kontakt vybraných účastníků z vědeckých ústavů a vysokých škol v České republice a v SRN pro odbornou diskusi nad vybraným vědeckým tématem, které zahrnuje experimentální a výpočtové metody v mechanice.
