In this Master's thesis, I propose to first investigate the existence of this autonomy of reason, which Cassirer postulates as a differentia specifica of enlightenment against other epochs, and which articulates this entire flow. Secondly, the critique of Cassirer's work and its truth content will be examined more closely. In order to make this project feasible, I will focus, among others, on Jonathan Israel's depiction of Enlightenment, and his idea, according to which two irreconcilable explanations have been given, is a concept which Cassirer himself was altogether alien to. In dieser Masterarbeit schlage ich vor, zunächst zu erforschen, worin diese Autonomie der Vernunft besteht, welche Cassirer als differentia specifica der Aufklärung gegenüber anderen Epochen postuliert und welche diese ganze Strömung artikuliert. Zweitens soll die Kritik am Werk Cassirers und ihr Wahrheitsgehalt genauer geprüft werden. Um dieses Projekt durchführbar zu machen, werde ich mich, unter anderen, insbesondere auf Jonathan Israels Darstellung der Aufklärung konzentrieren und seine Idee, der zufolge es zwei unversöhnliche Aufklärungen gegeben habe, eine Konzeption, welche Cassirer selbst gänzlich fremd war.
