Selen může být použit ke studiu lidské diety během různých historických období. Maso je zdrojem selenu (a zinku) a jeho obsah v těle je v přímém vztahu k množství proteinů ve stravě. Obsah selenu byl použit k porovnání dietních zvyklostí v dobách kultur eneolitu a doby bronzové. Selenium is one of the elements which can be used to study human diet at various historical periods. Since meat is the source of selenium (and zinc), selenium content in bodies is directly linked to amount of proteins in diet. Selenium content was used to study cultures of Eneolithic and Bronze Age.
