Předmětem této práce je analýza stavu konceptu vzájemného zaručeného zničení ve vztahu mezi Spojenými státy a Ruskou federací. Přestože jde o koncept vytvořený za studené války, jeho relevance dle autora závisí nikoli na politické situaci ve světě, ale na množství a technologické vyspělosti jaderných zbraní dotyčných zemí. Autor předpokládá, že i přes značné redukce v jejich arzenálech vzájemné zaručené zničení stále platí a v dohledné době tomu tak bude i nadále. Po krátkém historickém exkurzu, v němž je nastíněn sled událostí, jež k vytvoření vzájemného zaručeného zničení přispěly, následuje kapitola věnovaná zmíněné relevanci MAD. Teoretickým rámcem práce je charakteristika konceptu postavená na třech premisách: mohutnosti jaderného arzenálu, zranitelnosti vůči odvetnému úderu a schopnosti odvetný úder vykonat po absorpci prvního útoku. Analýza zmíněných premis je vedena v duchu kvalitativního výzkumu. V případě prvních dvou autor čerpá z odborné literatury a dat zveřejněných v rámci odzbrojovacích smluv, v případě třetí, kterážto je stěžejní částí této práce, je představeno několik modelů simulujících různé druhy jaderných útoků mezi oběma zeměmi. Informace získané na základě analýzy zmíněných premis pak poskytnou důkazy k potvrzení, respektive vyvrácení, autorovy hypotézy. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org) The subject of this paper is an analysis of the current state of Mutual Assured Destruction in the relationship between the United States and Russian Federation. Although the concept was conceived during the Cold War its relevance is, in the author's opinion, determined by the magnitude and technological attributes of nuclear weapons possessed by the actors involved, as opposed to the political climate in the world. The author argues that regardless to the significant reductions in either side's nuclear arsenal MAD is still valid and will remain so in the foreseeable future. After briefly outlining the historical events that lead to the establishment of MAD, a chapter presenting evidence that the concept is still relevant even today is included. The theoretical framework is provided by MAD's characteristic that is built on 3 premises: the robustness of nuclear arsenal, the vulnerability to a retaliatory strike, and the ability to retaliate after absorbing a first strike. The analysis is conducted as a qualitative research. Regarding the former two premises, journal articles and data published in the context of the disarmament treaties serve as sources of information.
