Abstract: V práci se srovnává účinnost povodní na Ostravsku v průběhu 19. a 20.stol. s povodní v roce 1997,poukazuje se na některé negativní účinky prováděných regulací divočících říčních koryt a zásahů do jejich ekosystémů, upozorňuje se přitom na rozdílné přístupy některých měst k regulacím.
