Needs of patients in the internal and surgical ambulance
VŠETULOVÁ, Anna
This bachelor thesis is titled ``The Needs of Patients in Internal and Surgical Outpatient Wards{\crq}q. The issue of patients{\crq} needs is in the limelight of nursing and its main characteristic feature is planned satisfaction of needs of healthy and ill individuals. The main objective of the thesis was to ascertain what needs are felt by the patients in the internal and the surgical outpatient wards and what patients{\crq} needs are identified by the nurses working in the concerned outpatient wards. The research was conducted using a quantitative and a qualitative research method. The quantitative method involved a questionnaire for the patients, designed on the basis of the Maslow{\crq}s pyramid of needs. While using this method, three hypotheses were raised and the obtained results confirmed them. The results of the quantitative research were assessed by means of charts and tables. The data for the qualitative research method were collected by means of interviews with nurses. The questions asked in the interviews and in the questionnaire were based on the Maslow{\crq}s pyramid of needs. One research question assisted us to attain the objective. The method of data categorization in tables and charts was selected for processing the research results. The research set consisted of patients and nurses in the hospital of České Budějovice. By means of the research we have ascertained that the patients{\crq} needs differ in dependence on the age and the gender. The most commonly unsatisfied needs include cognitive needs, in particular the need to know. The unsatisfied needs of the patients are individual and, at average, cover the lower and the higher needs of the Maslow{\crq}s pyramid. The nurses in outpatient wards identify mostly lower needs in the patients. Most nurses do not see higher needs of the patients unsatisfied. The conclusion of the thesis is the idea that the identification of the patients{\crq} needs by the patients themselves differs from the identification of patients{\crq} needs by the nurses. The findings obtained in the research could be used for publication in technical literature. We have also created an educational material for nurses working in outpatient wards since it is important to learn more about the patients{\crq} needs in order to facilitate better satisfaction of the patients{\crq} needs in outpatient wards.
