Housework within same-sex couples
Kounová Roubíčková, Karolína ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Benešová, Jana (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis was to provide the insight into the issue of housework among same-sex couples from their perspective. The research was conducted in sense of feminist perspective, which main considered advantages are increased reflexivity in relation to power at all stages of research and more space for the perspective of participators themselves. As a basic technique for data collection semi-structured dyadic interviews with each partner of the couple separately were used, they focused on their individual construction of reality in the context of housework among these couples, but also on participants' thoughts about housework in general. Three lesbian and two gay couples participated in this research. The analysis shows that there prevails egalitarian gender ideology in the context of housework which corresponds to the egalitarian view of the division of housework among same-sex couples in minds of the participants. The division of housework within the participating same- sex couples was mainly governed by the principle of fairness of the distribution, which consists of an equal division of household chores and is affected by personal preferences and previous experience in performing household chores. Fairness of the division, however, rather than with actual equal division of housework is...
Fertility changes in the context of gender revolution with focus on the man's role in the family in the Czech Republic

Title: Fertility changes in the context of gender revolution with focus on the man's role in the family in the Czech republic Author: Mgr. Pavel Koudelka Department: Department of Demography and Geodemography Statistics Supervisor: Prof. RNDr. Jitka Rychtaříková, CSc. Abstract: Profound changes are occurring in the relations between men and women in European families and societies, a transformation that is referred to as the 'gender revolution'. Considering the unprecedented drop in fertility, some important questions may be asked: in a more egalitarian society/family, could we expect a rise in the birth rate? Does men's participation in housework and child- care have an impact on the number of children born (in a family)? Czech society is slowly adapting to gender equality, but this is more apparent in the general mood and opinions than in the reality of households and families. We drew on two waves of a panel study Generations & Gender Survey (GGS) performed in the Czech republic and compared the information about the real involvement of men in households in which (a number of) children were born in between the waves. This is an advantage of GGS over similar studies: we have information about real- ity, real facts, and not only values and attitudes to gender equality or the number of children a...
Man's family roles in commercials and their presence in contemporary Czech TV advertising
Švigová, Barbara ; Krobová, Tereza (advisor) ; Rosenfeldová, Jana (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the representation of man's family roles and male domesticity in marketing communication. The main objective is to describe how the man's role in the domestic sphere is portrayed in advertising and its changes through time and to find out to what extent those changes are reflected by Czech television advertising. In the theoretical part, the thesis briefly deals with the concept of masculinity, gender stereotypes in the media and their impact on the society. Then it summarizes the changes of the man's family role due to industrialization and later the emancipation of women. The pivotal part of the thesis focuses on the representation of man's family roles in advertising. Firstly, it describes traditional stereotypes connected with the representation of masculinity and the offensive portrayals of male domesticity. Furthermore, it focuses on the emerging trend of positive representation of the man's family role and fathers in particular. The practical part of the thesis consists of research. The main research question was whether traditional stereotypical images or new positive images of male domesticity predominate in contemporary Czech television advertising. For this purpose, the research uses quantitative and qualitative content analyses of commercials...

Housework and Free Time, Contradictory Elements of Private Sphere?
Černá, Zuzana ; Balon, Jan (advisor) ; Marková Volejníčková, Romana (referee)
HOUSEWORK AND FREE TIME, CONTRADICTORY ELEMENTS OF PRIVATE SPHERE? Thesis author: Zuzana Černá Thesis supervisor: PhDr. Mgr. Jan Balon, Ph.D. Abstract This thesis examines a relationship between housework and free time. I used the qualitative interviewing which can help us better understand this issue. In contemporary society, free time is an important element of daily life. We are concerned with what it means to us, we evaluate its quality and analyze how it affects our life satisfaction. On the contrary, the housework represents duty and a less popular activity in general. These two elements form time that we spend outside of paid work. In this study I try to explain what housework represents, how it affects our free time and whether these two elements conflict because they together constitute our private life, despite their different nature. The housework becomes more important and demanding during parenthood when it merges with childcare. An important aspect is division of housework between the partners, especially when they can substitute each other. Such division appears to be more efficient and can help both parents gain more free time that happens to be precious during the parenthood. During my research I also found out that housework does not have to be necessarily connected with a negative meaning,...
