Social Housing for People with Mental Disorder
ČERNÁ, Monika
The aim of the bachelor thesis was to describe social housing for people with mental disorders, especially in the city of Pilsen. In the practical part, the following research questions were answered: 1) What are the possibilities and specifics of social work with people with mental disorders? 2) What is the benefit of social housing from the point of view of clients with mental disorders? For the research, I chose a qualitative research strategy using the method of semi-structured interviews. The first part of the interviews took place with social workers of the City of Pilsen - Department of Affordable Housing and Social Inclusion, the second part of the interviews with tenants of social housing who have been diagnosed with a mental disorder. The research set was created by the method of intentional selection and subsequent data analysis was performed by the coding method. A total of fourteen semi-structured interviews were conducted, five with social workers and twelve with clients. The research part showed that all communication partners from the ranks of clients lived in precarious housing conditions before moving into a social apartment, all of them showed repeated moving, especially after substandard forms of housing. This situation often worsened their mental state, and most of them were regularly hospitalized in psychiatric hospitals. The most common reasons for the absence of long-term stable housing presented by communication partners were poor financial situation, mental health problems and poor social ties. After moving into a social apartment, all communication partners managed to keep housing with the support of a social worker free of rent, and almost all of them had a long-term health condition. They all live in a social apartment for more than one year. The bachelor's thesis can be beneficial for social workers who, in the exercise of their profession, meet people with mental disorders suffering from housing deprivation. It could also be an inspiration for municipalities considering the introduction of social housing.

Cachová, Tereza ; Klvačová, Petra (advisor) ; Pěnkava, Pavel (referee)
In times such as these, when there is a rapid increase of people facing a housing crisis in the Czech Republic and the attempts to create and enforce the Law on Social Housing, people look at models from the Western countries, such as Housing First. Such models could provide possible solution for the housing situation of many people and also improve the quality of their lives. This particular method appeared in the 1990s USA and was aimed especially for people without homes who suffer from a mental disorder and alcohol or drug addiction at the same time. The main idea is that housing should not be a reward for successful solution of life problems but something that a person needs to start dealing with their troubles. In cases when people are given a place to live for a reduced rent, with the help of a social worker they can very often keep it up and they have the chance to deal with other problems connected to homelessness. The efficiency of the model is explored through experimental projects that do not look only at the percentage of people who are able to keep up their home but also the positive impact on their health or employability. With the spread of this method to Canada, Europe and Australia, certain aspects of Housing First were adapted to local contexts. Many subsequent projects use only...

Škarýdová, Anna ; Kotrusová, Miriam (advisor) ; Dobiášová, Karolína (referee)
The thesis "Social Housing Policy in the Czech Republic and it's target group" is focused at a contemporary situation of the social housing system and it's relationship towards the people of housing distress. It is based upon the fact, that there has been no such legislative document approved, which would be comprehensively dedicated to the issue of Social Housing Policy, although various attempts have been reappearing for the last ten years, and current government defined the approval of such a document as one of it's key political agenda. The thesis itself is based upon theoretically-methodological approach of targeted population's social construction, while using identification narrative to explain contemporary status, which occurs among policy makers. These narratives are defined as social reality overviews of researched reality and are distinguished by it's own issue definition and mutual approaches to this topic. They also defend public interests, while also creating notions about targeted population. The thesis is also dedicated to define the impact of political decisions on targeted population, distribution of burdens and benefits. Three narratives were identified, while social construction of targeted population differs. Two of the even differs by narrative itself, which highlighted the...
