Mediating Roles of Czechoslovakia and Canada among the Great Powers and Cuba in 1959-1969

The diploma thesis focuses on the period of the superpower rivalry of the Cold War, respectively, on the 1960's, and an interesting phenomenon of the intermediary role. At that time, Canada and Czechoslovakia took on tasks far beyond the importance of their bilateral relations with Cuba. They often made significant efforts and spent considerable resources. Furthermore, the work compares the nature of mediation of relations between Cuba and the great powers on the examples of these countries and tries to reveal their connections. More precisely, the work is interested in deciphering the motivations of Canada and Czechoslovakia for the initiative of the role of mediator between Cuba and the individual blocs. These states played this role in the relationship between Cuba and the Western countries in the case of Canada and Cuba and the Eastern bloc in the case of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. The Kenneth Waltz's theoretical approach of bipolar equilibrium will be used and analyzed as one of the possible explanations. From a methodological point of view, the work uses the Mill's method of difference and comparative history. 4-Coalition- anomaly or the expression of the systemic tendency? Case study of the Czech party system

v anglickém jazyce: This study focuses on the analysis of former Czech political project of "4-Coalition", which was established by four Czech oppositional parties (KDU-ČSL, US, ODA and DEU) in the years 1998 - 2002. This analysis is done through the case study, which focuses on the development of "4-Coalition" in its three developmental stages: from the cooperation of the sovereign parties, throw the formalized platform of party cooperation to the project of "4- Coalition" as a peculiar actor of the Czech politics. The analysis of ideological background, program and personnel questions shows the potential tensions, that arose inside of "4- Coalition", gives them in the appropriate historical context and analyses its causes. These tensions together with the external factors are viewed as a fundamental cause of the final failure of the project of "4-Coalition" and its disintegration. The aim of this study is to answer the question, whether it is possible in party system perspective to speak about "4-Coalition" as a potential third pole of the Czech party system, or whether it is anomaly, which the systemic tendency to the bipolar configuration doesn't infringe. Vývoj světové ekonomiky v době bipolárního rozdělení světa

Práce se zabývá vývojem světové ekonomiky v období bipolárního rozdělení světa, tedy etapou od konce 2. světové války do začátku 90. let. První kapitola popisuje důsledky 2. světové války a podobu a průběh poválečné obnovy hospodářství. Druhá kapitola analyzuje tendence ve vývoji světové ekonomiky v 50. a 60. letech 20. století, kdy docházelo k mimořádně rychlému rozvoji všech jejích částí a k liberalizaci mezinárodních ekonomických vztahů. Třetí kapitola je naproti tomu zaměřena na příčiny a charakteristiku neúspěšného vývoje v období posledních dvaceti let před rozpadem Východního bloku a koncem bipolarity.

The foreign policy of Syria and the Syrian role in the Middle East

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá zahraniční politiku a postavení Sýrie v regionu Blízkého východu. Její směřování bylo do značné míry ovlivňováno válečným stavem s Izraelem a panarabskou rétorikou. Tato práce určuje hlavní body zahraniční politiky Sýrie vůči sousedním státům, stejně tak vůči Íránu. Role Sýrie v oblasti Blízkého východu vyplývala z vytváření konkrétních aliancí se sousedními státy, ale do značné míry byla také ovlivněna rozpadem Sovětského svazu a přechodem k unipolaritě.
