Intra-Party Democracy and Experience Gained During the First Czechoslovak Republic on the Example of the Agrarian Party Abstract and keywords The author investigates the topic of intra-party democracy during the First Czechoslovak Republic. He focuses primarily on the Agrarian Party. To be specific, he examines internal structure of the Agrarian Party and its compliance with the principles of intra-party democracy. He also carries out an analysis of legal environment of the First Republic with respect to the regulation of political parties and evaluates its potential impacts on intra-party democracy of political parties of the time. In Part One of the thesis, the author describes the internal situation in the Agrarian Party. He explores all the areas of the party's activities, namely in the order they are addressed in the organisational rules. The author takes a closer look at the greatest leaders of the party, intra-party disputes or political situation of the party in Slovakia and Carpathian Ruthenia. In chapters dedicated to the Agrarian Party, information is provided to which theoretical concepts are applied by the author later on. The Development of the agrarian party in the oeriod of the Firsz Czechoslovak Republic

The Bachelor's thesis focuses on the development of Czech, later Czechoslovak Agrarian Party. The thesis describes the background of the Agrarian Party and its gradual boom before the establishment of Czechoslovakia. The Party's founders and first political leaders from the second half of the 19th century are mentioned. The thesis also describes the Agrarian Party's attitude during the First World War and the establishment of Czechoslovakia. However, the thesis emphasizes mainly the Party's political activity during the First Czechoslovak Republic in 1918-1935. Furthermore, it describes results of elections from 1920 to 1935 and discusses the formation and activities of government coalitions. The text provides an overview of agrarian politicians in the highest governmental functions who made important political decisions. The thesis deals with the gradual development of the Party during the First Republic and also its internal conflicts. It describes Party congresses and organizational rise of the Party. Moreover, it illustrates the Party's attitudes towards other political parties or presidents of the Republic. 7 The present work deals is a biography of Professor JUDr. Cyril Horacek, who was a prominent national economist, educator and politician during the turn of the century and especially in the first third of the 20th century. It examines his life stories and personal development with an emphasis on his career economist, educator and policy with regard to his private activities and interests. In several chapters, especially those concerning economics, he puts his expert view and work into the context of that time economic thinking and compares them with the work and ideas of others Czech national economists of that time.

The First Land Reform on the Estate Křivoklát

The Master's thesis aims to describe the time during the period of the first republic in the area of Křivoklátsko, concerning the land reform from the historiographic point of view, the mechanism of land reform, and its institutional and legal specification. The thesis outlines the atmosphere in the newly established Czechoslovak Republic and its relations to the former aristocracy. Moreover, it focuses on defending mechanisms of the aristocrats at that time, and it analyses the function of the Federation of the Czechoslovak landowners together with the Federation of the German landowners with help of the specific example of the aristocratic family of the Fürstenbergs, who were the last private owners of the Křivoklát castle. The paper deals with the land reform in relation to the land fond, mine properties, shareholding within the Buštěhrad railway, and real estates. It endeavours to map emerging remaining small estates in the Křivoklát estate, and determine the social status of the new owners. FRANTIŠEK MACHNÍK - The life of Agrarian politician and minister of the national defence

Submitted diploma thesis brings the life fates of František Machník, last political minister of the national defence of the first Czechoslovak republic. He was one of the political symbols of the army in 30´s as the representative of the Agrarian party. He soon found that the possible new army conflict among nations could be very real. The whole European effort of keeping Versailles´ peace system was absolutely desperate. Machník became propagator of the nation´s military ability, he popularized the army in the public view and he inspired thousands of people for her. He gave her technic and institutional laws. He was interested in the financial support of the building of the border´s fortification. This diploma work tries as first to map Machník´s life from the very beginnings over his studies, teacher´s and school director´s career and MP activities. It looks on his early enter to the Agrarian party and his work for Agrarian academics. The three - years ministerial career emphasizes two important moments - the law of the national defence and Machník´s decree. WWII brought him first suffering - the Gestapo investigation and then he was sentenced to death and this was changed to life imprisonment. The author of this work is also interested in Machník´s postwar investigation and trial by the National Court in the year 1947. It was followed with the communistic trial in 1952 and 5 years imprisonment. The end of the thesis concentrates on the sad Machník´s retirement after the amnesty in 1953.

Agrarian Party and the Democracy (Probe)

A part of historical literature (prior 1989 as well as after 1989) overestimates the rightist character of the Agrarian Party in the political system of the first Republic. Consequently, such literature considers this system as having significant authoritarian potencials. It interprets certain degree of antagonism between the Right and the Left, between the city and the country, the idustry and agriculture as conflicts between fascist orientation and the democratic forces. The essay is also concerned with the relationships between the Agrarian Party and President Beneš. On the basis of archival sources it shows that Edvard Beneš counted with the existence of a reformed Agrarian Party after the World War II. It was excluded from the system of political parties by competing political parties of National Front.
