The phenomenon of feminization in healthcare environment

The presented diploma thesis focuses on the identification of gender-based specifics in health care, specifically in the management of a health care institution as a caring institution. In the theoretical part, we defined feminism and feminist views, the concept of gender, medicine as a feminized environment, the legislative definition of work in health care in terms of management and, finally, stereotypes were defined. In the conducted qualitative research, we used unstructured interviews with health professionals (nurses and doctors) from the Czech and Slovak Republics, and we examined the gender-based specifics in health care. Research has shown that gender specificities in health care are emerging, in the areas of division of labor, impacts on job choices, equality and inequality, occupation of position and in provision of care. At the end of the thesis I presented recommendations for the use of management tools as a source of overcoming barriers to equality in the context of a caring institution. Nudging v zdravotníctve - cesta k vyšším mieram očkovania?

This master thesis investigates impact of nudging on the level of vaccination rates against measles by utilizing insights from behavioral economics. In the theoretical part, brief overview of behavioral economics and its contributions to health economics is outlined. Additionally, direct application of nudging concepts and behavioral features in healthcare is illustrated, primarily focused on the vaccination issue. In the analytical part, two neighboring countries have been chosen for the research, Austria and Czech Republic and their regions Vorarlberg, Prague and South Bohemia. Their rates of vaccination based on data gathered from both private institutions as well as public sources were compared using documentary comparative analysis as a research method. Two hypotheses were set for testing: (1) Czech mandatory vaccination policy against measles had been historically more effective than Austrian opt-in system and (2) Choice architecture had profound effect on levels of coverage. None of the hypotheses was refuted. Research was narrowed down to examination of measles due to data availability. In final part, implications from findings were elaborated on. Subsequent policy recommendations were presented, referring to the type of vaccination system, incentives, behavioral as well as historical factors and concepts of nudging like peer pressure, framing, priming, loss aversion or three heuristics.
IT SOLUTIONS FOR EFFECTIVE HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT

Why do the healthcare facilities incur debt? What troubles the managers most? In what conditions do the healthcare professionals work? Is there space for improvement? Is it possible to deliver higher quality care? Nowadays, the healthcare providers are looking for solutions, which could help them satisfy more patients, reach lower costs and therefore increase own financial results and answer the abovementioned questions. Key element of such a solution is a business intelligence system, which supports decision-making and aligns enterprise objects with its progress and improves the overall performance. The thesis elaborates on the topic of business intelligence software QlikView in selected hospitals, which already implemented or are about to implement the business intelligence software. The intention was to find out ways in which the software is used in the hospitals, what key performance indicators the software usually measures and what could be the possible opportunities for its further use in the selected facilities. Research results indicate that the software significantly increased the work efficiency and that it contributes to more effective hospital management. However, such improvement in efficiency has also its drawbacks, namely it is the higher price per personal licence in comparison to the other business intelligence software on the market. Research also confirmed the fact that only usage of such software alone will not help to improve the overall bad state of Slovak healthcare system -- systematic measures such as DRG system have to be implemented in the first place in order to also effectively use the business intelligence software.
