Wilderness and recreation in the Šumava NP - typology of the relationship

The diploma thesis focuses on evaluating the relationship between wilderness and recreation, specifically in the Czech National Park Šumava. Šumava is one of the unique natural sites, not only due to its location in Central Europe, but also due to its unique natural wealth hidden in the heart of Europe. Moors, peat bogs, river springs, but also forest vegetation and much more are among the treasures of this Czech national park. These places are an attraction for many visitors. The work examines how to reconcile these two opposing tendencies. On the one hand, it is a desire to protect the natural environment and, on the other hand, it is the ever-increasing pressure of tourism and recreation. The diploma thesis is divided into two basic parts. The first part is a search of the evaluation of the "wilderness" itself and offers a view of this concept from different angles. It is evident that the view of the wilderness will be different in the world context from what we know from the Czech Republic. Furthermore, it is possible to get acquainted with the influence of recreation on the natural environment, resp. "Wilderness". The structure of scholarly texts in Middle and Modern Czech: a comparative syntactic analysis

This thesis deals with discourse relations as a parameter of style. Two sets of text samples were analysed, both of which are characterized by the same stylistics features within the cathegory of scholarly style but differ in the date of origin (1500-1620 for one set, 1950- for the other). Analysis is focused on the issue to which extent are semantic relations in the discourse structure marked up by explicit lexical means, i. e. by the discourse connectives. The sets of text samples were annotated according to the scheme used for the discourse annotation in The Prague Dependency Treebank. The hypothesis was confirmed that discourse relations are marked up by the discourse connectives more frequently in the set of texts from the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century than in the other set. It turns out in further investigation that the difference mentioned above was caused by different conventions in placing discourse connectives rather than by establishing different semantic relations between textual units. Language of the Czech Private Correspondence of the Humanist Period

This work is focused on the language of non-beletristic Czech private correspodence originated between 1611 and 1618 and the aim is to describe the occurence, form and function of linguistic phenomena that refer to higher or lower style. Eight letters from The Archive of Matouš Konečný (deposited in Muzeum Mladoboleslavska) were used for analysis. This manuscripts were transliterated and transcribed in order to gain as much information as possible for futher description. The characteristics of examined linguistic phenomena were taken from diachronic literature first and then compared with analysis results. We also made a conclusion about the influence of stylistic factors (writerʼs competence for creating a cultivated linguistic expression, the relationship between writer and addressee, thematic and functional aspects) on achieved standard of style refinement.
