Regional Development in Sweden after 1990
Klíma, David ; Tomeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Vogt, David (referee)
Purpose of this paper is to study if and how are changing regional pattern and regional disparities in last decades in Sweden, one of the most homogeneous country in the world. Globalization and intensified competitiveness which affect not only companies and economic sectors, but also states and regions contribute to a changing pattern. Even a traditionally homogeneous and egalitarian Sweden is changing. Paper examines regional development in Sweden by social-economic indicators and basic statistic and indicates wider connection of this development. Basic hypothesis is that crisis and intensified competitiveness contribute to a deepening of regional disparities. In last twenty years regional disparities are growing indeed and they are probably related to a recession, but dominant factors cannot be pointed out with certainty. Increase of regional variability is related to just some social and economic aspect. In many aspects Sweden remains the most homogenous country in Europe. The paper is focused on county level. Key words: regional development, regional disparities, Sweden, globalization, crisis
Geopolitics of water resources in Syr Darya river basin
Dresler, Jan ; Jelen, Libor (advisor) ; Vogt, David (referee)
Water belongs to renewable resources, but its allocation in the world is unequal and some regions have been already suffering from water scarcity. It brings rising tensions and conflict situations. The study describes geopolitical problems concerning economic or other usage of water resources in the Syr Darya river basin, Central Asia, from a geopolitical point of view. Its goal is to analyse present situation and to estimate possibilities of regional and supra- regional cooperation among the states located in the river basin. Cooperation on the local level is not possible because of Uzbekistan, who plays a role of a strong regional leader. Cooperation on the supra-regional level is possible but it can be influenced by Russia or China. The presumable future development concerning regional security situation is discussed. The risk of potential military conflict due to water scarcity as well as additional problems in the region is high. Key words: water resources, geopolitics, Syr Darya river basin, Central Asia

It also admits a possible risk of conflict with representative democracy. The thesis tends towards those approaches which investigate the relationship of the civil society with the state and the commercial sphere, in which conflicts occur in the (public) space and about the space. Thereafter, the issue is studied empirically on the example of local and regional level in the Liberec Region, where impacts of a hierarchical level, a distance from the centre, the territory resettled after the Second World War and other possible geographical influencing factors. As the data source about the organisations and activities of the civil society the thesis uses namely these three items: (i) data from the Register of Economical Subjects...
