Title of Doctoral Thesis Analysis of Selected Determinants of Drug Policy in the Czech Republic Introduction: Drug policy as part of health policy is an important factor affecting the efficiency of the health care system. Interest for the government is to realize the consump- tion of drugs in quantities which seeks to optimize the health of the patients. It should be avoided wasting drugs (high consumption of drugs) and deterioration of the health status of the population as a result of inadequate or obsolete treatment (low consumption of medicines). The aim of drug policy is to ensure safe, effective and quality medicines and to ensure optimal and accessible health care to people when required using limited funds. Objectives: The main purpose of this thesis was to analyze the selected determinants of drug policy in the Czech Republic. Attention was especially focused on analyzing the relationships between drug policy, consumption of medicines and health services and the behavior of individuals within the health care system. Pharmacoeconomic view on the treatment of rheumatic diseases

Title of Doctoral Thesis Pharmacoeconomic view on the treatment of rheumatic diseases The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the impact of selected rheumatic diseases on health and social insurance, and to investigate the severity and cost of individual items and the distribution of costs among specific subgroups of patients according to type of therapy or disease severity. The methodology used was a Cost-Of-Illness analysis from the societal perspective. Data on treatment, reduction of labour productivity and level of disability were collected through questionnaires (between members of patient organizations or doctors). Indirect costs for all diagnoses were calculated by using the Friction Cost Approach and due to the same methodology can be compared. The dissertation is presenting cost analysis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), psoriasis (Ps) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Pharmacoepidemiology of medicines by cardiovascular diseases

11. SUMMARY Introduction Increasing prevalence of chronic forms of cardiovascular diseases, theirs treatment is lifelong in majority of patients, causes considerable increase of the utilisation of cardiovascular drugs. Considering the fact that healthcare financial resources are restricted, it is necessary to use the drugs effectively and rationally. That is why it is important to study the trends in pharmacotherapy and drug prescribing in the real practice and consequently evaluate the drug use from the epidemiological, economic or social point of view. Objectives The objective of this work was to evaluate several aspects of the cardiovascular drug utilization on the basis of use of several large drug databases and different pharmacoepidemiologic attitudes.
