Crime prevention in the Czech Republic

Crime Prevention in the Czech Republic The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the Crime prevention strategy of the Czech Republic with a special emphasis on its local level preventive activities used by city authorities. The thesis is composed of three main parts. The first one defines basic terminology attached to the topic of crime prevention such as delinquency or criminal repression. Crime prevention is in this section also discussed as a process consisting of several stages and as a process limited by certain obstructions as well. The second part indicates how the described process operates in the Czech Republic, what are the main conditions formed by the legislation in the fight against crime and what are the used tools of crime prevention on the local level. And last but not least the interactions between the subjects of prevention are defined. The conclusive part of the thesis is focused on a specific case and the use of crime prevention in it. The main reason is the strategies are usable only at the level of cities, municipalities and their parts. Open Science - scientific (r)evolution

The thesis deals with openness in the scientific practice and discusses in detail the concept of open science. Apart from theoretical part dedicated to description of science, traditional model of scholarly communication, and initial ideas of openness, thesis summarizes the approaches of particular open science schools of thought and introduces specific tools, initiatives and methods enabling the idea of openness to become reality. Practical part of thesis focuses on description of current state of open science in the Czech Republic and by using the Future wheel prognostic method offers visualization of the future development in science and society, further specifies possible consequences of implementing the concept of open science into practice and defines opportunities and risks of the second scientific revolution.

"eBooks on Demand" Service in the Czech Republic

This Bachelor thesis introduces European cooperative project Elektronické knihy na objednávku - Evropská knihovní síť (eBooks on Demand - A European Library Network, EOD) and homonymous service which aims to digitize rare books on customer's demand. customer's demand. The first part of thesis describes the project in generally way regarding its history, describing goals, key activities, and technological workflow of EOD service. Furthermore the thesis focuses on describing current situation of EOD service in the Czech Republic. The last part presents the promotional tools of EOD service and their possible new opportunities.

Science 2.0 Tools and Platforms

V době, kdy vědecká práce a komunikace probíhá téměř vždy online, není divu, že i nástroje 2.0 - sociální média - pronikají do práce odborníků, vědců a výzkumníků. Příspěvek se pokusí obecně představit možnosti a prolnutí 2.0 nástrojů a platforem s vědeckou prací a představit i konkrétní služby, které již odborníci po celém světě využívají a které jim značně usnadňují kolaborativní práci, zviditelňují jejich činnost apod.

Repositories in Libraries, Museums and Archives: Yes or No?

Příspěvek shrne problematiku budování institucionálních repozitářů, jejich význam pro paměťové instituce a poukáže na možné problémy, které s budováním souvisí. Repozitáře slouží především jako místa dlouhodobé archivace a zpřístupnění digitálních dokumentů, tedy i digitálního kulturního dědictví, nikoliv pouze krátkodobých či rychle zastarávajících informací. Vzhledem k proměně povahy nově vznikajících dokumentů v současné době je tedy žádoucí, aby se vznikem takovýchto digitálních archivů paměťové instituce začaly zabývat.

Open Repositories 2012

Náplní služební cesty byla účast na mezinárodní konferenci Open Repositories 2012, která se ve dnech 9. – 13. července konala na University of Edinburgh ve Skotsku. Konference byla rozdělena do 3 částí – první zahrnovala workshopy, druhá se skládala z několika paralelních bloků přednášek a závěr konference byl věnován přednáškám děleným dle softwaru užívaného pro budování repozitářů (DSpace, Fedora, EPrints). Podnázvem letošního ročníku bylo Open Services for Open Repositories, díky čemuž byla většina přednášek věnována ukázkám služeb podporujících myšlenky otevřeného přístupu, a to nejen k publikacím, ale také vědeckým datům a ukázkám služeb zaměřených na obohacování či rozšiřování uloženého obsahu. Konference byla zároveň spojena s Repository Fringe, festivalem, který každý rok Edinburghská univerzita pořádá pro správce repozitářů.

Here is the public, so open the science!

Říkali mi, stačí 2-3 stránky, tak jsem sedla k internetu a pustila se do hledání materiálů, z kterých bych tu seminárku dala dohromady. Díky otevřenému přístupu (Open Access) a znalostem, kde hledat, jsem do druhého dne měla tolik článků, že bych na jejich základě mohla sepsat knihu. Víte i vy, kde získat kvalitní odborné informace pro vaši školní/vědeckou práci?

Grey Literature 2.0

The paper tries to describe grey literature in the context of platforms and tools of the web 2.0. We can follow up that increasing trends in the scientific communication are e.g. microblogging, scientific blogging and there are also scientific social networks in the distribution cycle of grey literature. Except the examples of grey literature 2.0, the paper also discusses the problems of the promotion of grey literature and grey literature community through the social media.

Open Data and where to put them?

The scientific community and general public is not only interested in Open Access to the fulltexts but also in Open Data. Open Data enhance the information transfer, save money and increase the transparency of scientific communication. Lately Open Data have become a trend across many research fields. The paper aims to present the Open Data initiative, Enhanced publication term and also present examples of data repositories.

A linked-data vocabulary of grey literature document types: Version 1.0

The first version of the vocabulary of the types of grey literature in RDF (Resource Description Framework) is based on an analysis of grey literature typologies and a draft version of vocabulary presented on GL12. The draft version of the vocabulary of the types of grey literature was reviewed by 14-member international working group appointed to this purpose. From January until July 6, 2011 42 comments and suggestions were accepted. Subsequently, they were incorporated by the NTK (National Technical Library) team. Changes mainly redefined some collections, some document types were merged and others excluded. The major changes concerned the following collections: monographs, informative materials, datasets and research plans. By our poster we would like to introduce the first version and discuss the possibility of using it by grey literature community. The vocabulary of the types of grey literature is publicly available on http://code.google.com/p/grey-literature-typology/ . The record includes also a poster, which was a part of presentation.
