The woman in Miguel de Unamuno's novels
Seifertová, Klára ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
The thesis presents the work of the Spanish author Miguel de Unamuno and is focused on female characters in his novels Paz en la guerra, Amor y Pedagogía, Niebla, Abel Sánchez, Tres novelas ejemplares y un prólogo, La tía Tula and San Manuel Bueno, mártir. The portrayal of female characters is showed in the context of Unamuno's philosophy and existential concepts, which he dealt with a lifetime - genuine faith in God, the significance of love, the eternal conflict between sense and sensibility and the desire for eternal life. Furthermore, the thesis presents the social and historical background at the turn of the 19th century and women's role in the Spanish society of the same period. Unamuno's conception of novels and his own genre, called "nivola", could not be omitted.
Unamuno's resonances by A. Buero Vallejo's El tragaluz: the existentialist background
Seifertová, Klára ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Mathé, Lukáš (referee)
The aim of this work is to discover the common themes of two important Spanish writers Miguel de Unamuno and Antonio Buero Vallejo, whose works deal with the matters of human being. The first of them lived in the years of 1864-1936 and is often described as an author of preexistentialism, the second, an author noticeably younger, born in 1916, was influenced by the Spanish civil war and was affected by the wave of existentialism, which appeared after the First World War. I have chosen two particular works, Unamuno s novel Niebla and Buero s El Tragaluz for my thesis. The first part is focused on the explanation of the basic terms important for both authors, afterwards the basic thoughts of the existentialist phylosophy are described. These existential background is checked in the approaching to the mentioned works in the mirror of the main interpretative questions analyzed by the academy. Buero Vallejo s and Unamuno s fundamental and parallel conclusions about the sense of human life are mentioned in the final part.
